Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alexis Evans. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Alexis thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been one of the most interesting investments you’ve made – and did you win or lose? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice).
One of the best investments I’ve made as a business owner is to hire a photographer. Because I run an event design business in the golden age of social media everything is based off of aesthetics. People throw large lavish parties not just for the memories, but also for Instagrammable moments to share with their friends and families. Aside from the obvious advantages that a photographer has over an iPhone, hiring a professional allows me more time to adequately do my job instead of rushing to take a mediocre camera phone picture. Because I’ve worked with the same photographer consistently we rarely have to take extra time to discuss which shots to get. She knows what I’m looking for and that makes both of our jobs easier. Over 90% of my leads come from Instagram and roughly another 6% come from returning clients so having a good social image is really crucial for my business.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
My name is Alexis Evans and I am an event designer and a balloon stylist. I started my company, Party With Lex back in 2019 because event planning seemed like the most lucrative way for me to use my creative skills. I am an over-the-top gift giver and I really pride myself on my attention to detail when hosting any party. So I made that my job. I create themed concepts for my clients and oversee all of the production elements. In simpler terms, I decorate parties but it really is so much more than just that. At Party With Lex, we design everything from the party to the desserts, custom stationery and we even build custom props.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
This may sound really corny to some, but God has really been a driving force for me. Before I started my business I was struggling to find the right career path. When I was younger my mom would make me help her set up events for her church and I’d always hide outside to get out of having to work. In high school I really wanted to study fashion design, but they didn’t have a program for that in my small town, so I took graphic design courses instead. A couple of years into college I ended up having my son, which was a challenge, but overall so worth it. Once I finally got to the point of trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life I prayed about it a lot. Then, one day I had an epiphany and all of those things finally made since. My mom taught me so much about styling and coordinating just from watching her, I use my graphic design skills practically everyday in my field and because I have a young kiddo I’m always up to date on all of the latest kids party trends. So now, when things get hard and I think about giving up I just keep reminding myself that this is what God has ordered me to do. If he has that much faith in me then I have to believe in myself and keep pushing for success.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
My advice is to stay connected with your target audience. Because I do most of my marketing on Instagram, that’s where I’ve created my community. When a new client follows me to check out my work I usually follow them back. I don’t want Party With Lex just to feel like a company. I want people to know the face behind the brand. I’m really grateful that they want to know more about my business so I want to know more about them too. Just like we get to celebrate the day of an event, I try to foster brand loyalty by celebrating in all of their wins. Whether that means congratulating a new mom post baby shower or even liking a picture of a potential client that never booked. I try to be as transparent about my journey as possible because I’m still learning as I go, but I think that honesty really goes a long way with most people.
