We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alexis Doss. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alexis below.
Hi Alexis, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
Everything I’ve done over the past 11 years has been a risk and that is what has made me successful. Big risks get rewarded and I will continue to do them! My biggest risk was starting my business with ZERO business background. I went to school to be a high school history teacher and then was just a serve and a bartender, do getting into my business as a coach was unexpected and I had no idea what I was doing but it was the best decision I ever made. It challenged me and made me have to learn things about myself and the world that have brought me so many opportunities and so much success over the past few years. I have failed many times but that has also given me so much insight on how to be successful!
Alexis, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
So through a series of some crazy events, I essentially went from going to school to be a high school history teacher to moving to LA and ending up in an abusive relationship, becoming homeless and getting myself back up on my feet and then getting a diagnosis that changed my life. After getting that health diagnosis, I decided to start taking care of myself and healing from an eating disorder and started sharing my journey of nutrition and fitness on social media for accountability but as I started to feel better, I realized I could help other people feel the same so I got my holistic health certification and started coaching people with fitness and nutrition.
After doing that for a few years, I started to ask deeper questions to help my clients get to the root our their problem and that got me into life coaching, and then after building a successful business, I realized I wanted to help entrepreneurs do the same so now that brings me to where I am now which is a life and business coach that helps people with ADHD stop procrastinating and take action with simplicity and structure. I work with a lot of perfectionists and workaholics and help people show up to their life in business and that works for them and no one else.
I offer one on one mentorship as well as group coaching and workshops, and I give a ton of free content away on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube and my podcast
I think something that set me apart from other coaches I feel like I was born with a superpower to ask people questions that they’ve never been asked before or asked in way that they’ve never been asked before. I tend to have people that come to me and tell me that they’ve been in therapy for years, but they feel like they’ve made more progress with me in one call and that really means a lot to me.
I think the thing I’m proud of is just my ability to serve people. I definitely was put on this earth to do what I do and I think inspiring others through something as simple as my Instagram and the things I share is really great to me. I’m also really proud of the fact that I’ve built a successful business and have multiple platforms that I serve people on and it’s a lot of work but I love it.
The main thing I want people to know about me and what I do is that even though I am called the “tough love coach“ I’m really about redefining what tough love means and it’s really just about having honest conversations with yourself. There are so many people with so much potential we hold ourselves back because we are waiting for motivation or discipline to come and I’m really about helping us teach ourselves how to have that
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Everything I have done in my business been a pivot. I talk about this a lot but I have changed my mind a million times since I started and I try to tell people that so they can feel comfortable changing their mind! I started as a vegan recipe page on instagram, then went to paleo, then did fitness and changed my mind 100x after that. But my biggest pivot was doing network marketing and building a VERY successful team over 8 years and then deciding to walk away from it to fully pursue my 1:1 coaching. And it was the scariest thing ever because I had to walk away from something that was super successful and a team I loved but it has opened up so much for me that I could never dream of!
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Honestly instagram is where I get most of my clients. I focus mainly there and just connect with people on a real level and it’s my favorite thing ever
