Alexis, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Along this journey called life, each person will experience ups and downs. Grasping this key of understanding is only meant to guide you along your life’s journey. Initially, my mind set would think “it’s always something to go wrong.” This negative thinking had been induced from lack of understanding. Once I tweaked my mindset, every little aspect in my life aligned. I was unable to view shortcomings as opportunities. Unknowingly becoming my own biggest obstacle. Once I was able to remove mental blocks, I began to work on me from the inside out. This in turn has been the greatest gift. I began to fix my own issues that I couldn’t find solutions for, thus the birth of my 1st business: Glammhouse. An all natural hair care line that caters to natural hair. Each individual product has been formulated to restore, stimulate hair growth, increase hair strength, improve health, ultimately leaving lasting and stunning results. 100% of our users have report a permanent change in their quality of hair. Including texture, cleanliness, growth, and appearance. These were key elements I struggled with as well. Embarking on a self healing journey has turned out to help heal others, WHO KNEW! The journey has been extremely rewarding and I do not intend to stop until my products become and option for any and every individuals. After all, our company “Houses beauty for ALL”
Alexis, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For those who may not know me just yet, I’m LexC, pronounced “Lexi.” I’m currently 29 years old, and a mother to 1. I thought I knew exactly how my life would go. After graduating high school with honors I began to plan out the next 10 years of my life. Boy, was that a waste of time. My plan was to pursue a career in pharmacy. I applied to reputable medical schools within the state of Florida. Thankfully I was accepted into every one. Attaining a Florida bright futures scholarship was the cherry on top for pursuing the future I had planned. Then life. I became a mom shortly after graduating high school and had to roll with life as it progressed. I still attended secondary education while working to provide for my pride and joy. Life has a funny way of pulling the best out of you through turmoil and struggle. I began to do things I couldn’t fathom. A series of events led me to being more expressive and creative. Deciding to listen to my intuition, I took a deeper dive into spirituality, my wants, and future endeavors. Understanding now my life has taught me to consistently overcome adversity. This being a key element when becoming an entrepreneur allowed me to map out a business plan. Becoming an unstoppable force is what has continued to drive me as well as my hair and design businesses to success. I am now at the stage of automation and retail for both my hair care line, and fashion line Glammhouse Galleria. The feedback, reviews, and appreciation I received from my customers are unmatched. My customers can hardly believe how much their hair has grown and improved in such small time frames. I feel I am spreading a sense of awareness of embracing natural hair, and properly caring for it. I have been styling hair for over 5 years now. The gratitude and satisfaction I receive from servicing my clients are proof and motivation enough of a positive impact. My sketches have already grabbed the attention of my directed audience and I can’t wait to release my designs to the world. My goal is to provide true quality, aesthetically pleasing, health aiding products and services to improve one’s standard of life.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
There is a huge learning curve when it comes to my business Glammhouse Hair Care. Having all the necessary tools like education, finances, time, innovation will never prepare you for the journey ahead. Having expectations of where you should be upon a time line was where unlearning started to take place for me. Honestly speaking, 80%-90% of the information taught in preparation of starting a business was useless. I first needed to grasp this concept; “makings of abstract thought has no real time line.” Allow me to elaborate. A vision has to come into fruition. The only person that can bring a vision into reality is the very one (or group) that has seen it. Therefore, placing a time line in reality, on something that doesn’t start in reality to begin with is simply unrealistic. Comparison to things and people around you is the quickest way to deter your vision. Learning to trust yourself goes a long way becoming and continuing to be an entrepreneur. Now that I’ve freed myself from personal expectations and expectations of others, the possibilities for Glammhouse Hair Care are LIMITLESS. After crossing one hurdle, of course life needed to throw me another. This was my biggest struggle of all. Learning to do things as a team. I recall this great quote along the lines of “if you want to go fast do it alone, if you want it to last, find a home.” Meaning by yourself you won’t go far because you need others to have a solid foundation. Of course things may move a bit slower, but in the end having a community around your vision will not fail. Due to being independent early in life (becoming a mom) that’s all I ever knew. Taking all the responsibility for pushing forward is what got me this far. Until having a vision that was larger then me. This is when I knew I can’t possibly do everything on my own, I’d run mad. The more I allowed others to help and guide me the further things moved along. Take it from me, being cautious on who you allow in is a major factor in the success of your business. Sad to say much of the help won’t come from people you’ve know or even family. It’ll come from strangers and people that believe in you vision. These individuals have been great catalyst and has made my journey even more rewarding. If you’re reading, you are well on your way. See you at the top!
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Marketing and brand recognition has been the two areas of improvement I needed to concentrate on. Being a consumer myself, I felt as though I knew exactly what a consumer wanted to see and experience. My views needed a little reevaluation. I thought to myself everything must look grand and elaborate to catch one’s attention. In actuality, with health and beauty products clients just want to know “Does your products work?” Cut and dry, right? Customer testimonials and progress picture became a huge part of growing my clientele. Displaying my products being used and providing a timeline of real results made users talk non stop. Various people with various hair types spread my business and brand by word or mouth because their hair growth was astonishing. Comments like “My hair has grown so much!!! It is thick as well! Your products are the Truth!!!” Other reviews stating “ My dandruff in nonexistent now. I just realized that. I always tried to keep my hair moisturized with oils and conditioners but I still use to have flakes. I haven’t had none in a while,” has spread like wild fire. With review like this like moderate marketing eludes to a level of exclusivity. This made my clientele grow due to eagerness of trying my products for themselves. All in all, marketing your brand brings awareness and recognition about your products for sure. However, customer experience and reviews of how your products work the way they’re marketed has made my products fly off the shelves. It’s rare to find good products in the community so once my gem was discovered, it was no turning back. Don’t over market because your product quality will speak volumes. Have you tried Glammhouse hair care yet?
