We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alexis Cee. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alexis below.
Alexis, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
As a child, I enjoyed experiences where worlds met. I was always intrigued by television shows’ crossover episodes and different forms of parody. I’ve always felt that those creations brought people with contrasting interests, ages, ethnicities, etc., together. Whether my work is visual, sound, or touch, I strive to do the same with my work.
Alexis, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I began my journey in this industry at 14 by illustrating and animating musicians I supported. I would often upload my work to social media for them to see and provide them with a copy of the illustration if I met them in person. The actions blossomed into me gaining clientele for various graphic design needs.
I provide an extensive range of work, primarily graphic design services. My favorite things to create are music and film-related – cover art, billboards, posters, merchandise, etc. Often my clients initially find it difficult to visually represent their project or brand. One of the first things I strive to do is to help them see themselves as a consumer of their product or brand. As a creator, I think we sometimes forget to step outside of our position and absorb our creations. Being able to usher my clients to that perspective allows me to bring their thoughts and ideas to life physically.
I am most proud of my journey thus far in my career. I often think back to 14-year-old me and how I looked up to others like the present me. It’s a great feeling when you can do what you love and help others do what they love by doing so. My work and work ethic grows every day. If there are things I haven’t created before, I strive to try. Although there are obstacles, I believe creating is limitless, so I don’t limit myself.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
There are so many websites to help designers learn about the elements that we use. When I was learning typography, websites like KERNTYPE were helpful for visual learning. Some websites even show what visual elements were used in well-known work, fontsinuse.com being one of them.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is seeing an idea come to life. It brightens my day when I’m reminded of my creations, whether it’s on a social media feed or a billboard while traveling on the highway.
