We were lucky to catch up with Alexis Byrne recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Alexis thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
I hope that my legacy will be providing quality care for everyone’s pup! It is my hope and desire to help those in need and one of the ways I love to do this is to look after my client’s pets. It brings joy and happiness to me to know that they can trust me and I hope to continue to provide this care through the trust of the pet owner. Some of my clients after booking with me have told me that it was so great to be able to trust someone with their fur baby and that brings so much joy to my heart.
Alexis, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I currently own my small business Ruff Life Co., which provides pet boarding and house sitting services. I got into this industry at the end of the year 2019 when I joined Rover.com. I simply started because I needed a job that provided flexibility while I was in college. From there, my little business took off and was amazed with how many doggie sitting jobs I was picking up. I found out how much I really enjoyed what I was doing and decided to keep doing it. I really enjoyed helping people find a place to keep their pup while they were out of town and knowing that they could enjoy their vacation really made me happy. I am most proud of how Ruff Life has grown since it started and cannot wait to see how it continues to grow. My hope is that I can double in clients over the next few years.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I have significantly grown my clientele through a dog sitting application called Rover.com. This is an amazing app where you can have your own website and clients can find you on the platform. It makes it so easy to draw in business because they do the advertising for you. From there, it’s all about word of mouth. When you do a great job, more people spread the word about your business. This all has helped me tremendously.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to learn was patience. I would get so worried when I would have a slow week but then it always picked up the week after I would be so worried. I had to learn that with good things you need patience for what is coming right around the corner.
