We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alexis Brown a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alexis, appreciate you joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Writing is an interest/skill that comes naturally to me, I’m able to do it intuitively. It was not only one of my favorite hobbies as a child but it was an outlet and coping mechanism as well. I would take thoughts and feelings that I couldn’t voice to others and I would turn them into poems, songs, and stories. As I grew older I drifted away from it and found other interests such as clothing design and cosmetology, but after being forced into stillness due to the state of the World these last few years, I not only had the time to truly analyze my life and the areas that needed adjustment, but I had the time to tap back into my interest in writing as well. From there I began writing and releasing music and I wrote a book about my experience with life, and my journey with healing generation trauma, and I also wrote a film manuscript because I hope to one day take my story to the big screen.
Within this craft, self discipline is the most essential skill to have because there’s plenty of mental obstacles that comes with writing. Sometimes you question your writing, sometimes you question your love for it, sometimes you have writers block, and sometimes you simply just don’t have the energy to even think much less write. But one thing experiencing those obstacles taught me was to push through them and write anyways because through those moments, I create my greatest bodies of work.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Alexis Brown but I go by Lex A’llure. I’m from Austin, Texas and I just turned 24. I was featured on this platform a few years ago for my sewing and cosmetology abilities but now I’m here to speak about my journey as a writer. For me, writing isn’t necessarily my job, it’s more of a tool that I use to assist me with my true job/purpose which is helping others heal. Through music, poetry, books, and even conversation, I’m able to use my words to help bring clarity, comfort, guidance, and insight not only to myself but to others as well. Growing up I had a difficult upbringing which created a lot of trauma and self limiting beliefs that I had to worked through. Although my experience wasn’t pleasant, I view it as something that equipped me with the motivation, strength, wisdom, and compassion to do what it is that I am now doing.
In my book “The Remodel: Reconstructing My Reality & Repairing Generational Trauma” I use my life story to help breakdown the ways that the experiences, environments, and influences someone faces during their childhood helps shape their mind, beliefs, values, and how they view not only themselves, but the World as well. My book includes poetry, story-telling, and questions that will spark curiosity in its reader about their own journey. As a reader of my book you will laugh, you will cry, and most importantly you will realize that no matter where you begin, where you decide to go is all up to you.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Growing your audience needs to be an organic process because you want to make sure that you’re growing and nurturing the right crowd for you. You want to attract those that resonate with you, your products and services, so just be yourself and let the right people find you. Also don’t get discouraged by any lack of support or engagement you may receive at times, push through it. Post your content, post your services, post your brand.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
One of my biggest life goals is to cultivate the perfect team to open a holistic healing resort.
