We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alexis Bedoya a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alexis, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Growing up, I always had a knack and love for art.
Whether it was painting, sculpting, or drawing, I always enjoyed the process of creating something.
And living in New Jersey and frequently traveling to New York, I found inspiration in the juxtaposition of streetwear culture and urban art with the natural surroundings. Graffiti sprawled across walls, buildings, walls, and bridges. Vibrant colors breaking through the concrete, contrasted beautifully with the greenery around. It was a vivid reminder of how art can thrive in unexpected places, blending the raw energy of the streets with the tranquility of nature.
But there wasn’t something like that that was available.
So I put my skills to the test, and hand painted and designed jackets, shirts, and of course- hats.
I wanted to create something that held the essence of art, tranquility, and was fashionable.
Thus- The Floralidz brand was born.
The Floralidz brand combines the feel of fashionable streetwear with an artist’s touch.
Why flowers?
Because their essence is beautiful, clean, and soothing.
At a flowers core it is serene and just lovely to look at.

Alexis, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi, I’m Alexis Bedoya, and I’m 23 years old. I was born in Totowa, New Jersey, and growing up, I wasn’t exactly the best when it came to academics. I struggled in school, but there was one thing that always came naturally to me: creating art. Whether it was drawing, painting, or any form of creative expression, I found peace and purpose in it.
When it came time to choose a path in college, I decided to study business, thinking it would offer stability and practicality. But as I progressed through my studies, I came to an important realization—first and foremost, I’m an artist. The desire to create and express myself through art has always been a part of who I am, and no business concept or theory could change that.
However, I also recognized that business isn’t something I should ignore. It complements my creativity, helping me turn my artistic passions into something that can thrive in the real world. So, I’ve come to embrace both sides of myself: I’m an artist, and I’m a businessman. The two go hand in hand, and together, they define my journey.
I chose the fashion industry because of the powerful way fashion can serve as a form of self-expression. Fashion pieces aren’t just clothes—they’re statements, representations of who you are, where you come from, and what you stand for. The idea of wearing something that not only reflects your identity but also shapes how others perceive you, is what drew me in.
I’ve always been fascinated by how a piece of clothing can tell a story, represent a place, or embody a concept that allows someone to stand out, make a statement, or even elevate their status. Fashion, for me, is an art form that communicates without words. It’s about creating pieces that go beyond just style—they become symbols of personal significance and cultural influence, something I’m passionate about bringing into the world.
The idea for my brand, Floralidz, came to life when I noticed a unique contrast in the fashion world. I’d see high-end luxury clothing featuring nature and floral elements, while at the same time, I was surrounded by people who embraced streetwear. It felt like there was an opportunity to merge these worlds, but something was missing—something that would make it all feel more connected and complementary.
The real breakthrough came when I was walking around New York City. I came across a building covered in vibrant graffiti, with nature—plants and flowers—growing around it and almost overtaking it. The way the urban street art and the organic beauty of the plant life blended together was striking, and it hit me: this was the perfect fusion I was looking for. That moment sparked the inspiration to create a brand that celebrates the harmony between nature and urban culture—combining the raw edge of streetwear with the elegance of floral and natural elements.
And so, Floralidz was born. It’s about creating pieces that feel alive, with nature and art merging in a way that stands out, tells a story, and redefines what fashion can represent.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Building my audience for Floralidz was all about connecting with people face-to-face. I made it a point to attend different pop-up events, immersing myself in the community, and talking to as many people as I could. I wasn’t just trying to sell a product—I was trying to share a vision and a story. This hands-on approach helped me build real relationships and, over time, it naturally led to collaborations with photographers, videographers, models, and even business partners who were passionate about the brand and what it stood for.
Through these connections, I was able to create content that resonated with people and shared the essence of Floralidz in a way that felt authentic. Social media played a huge role in amplifying this—word spread, and I started to see my supporters and customers grow, not just locally, but online as well. It was all about building a community and creating something that people wanted to be a part of.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
A lot of my insights and inspiration come from listening to podcasts featuring influential figures like Virgil Abloh and Kanye West. Both of them have had such a profound impact on fashion and culture, and hearing their perspectives on the evolution of style, creativity, and the business side of things has been incredibly valuable to me.
Virgil, in particular, taught me about the intersection of high fashion and street culture, and how design can be a form of storytelling. Kanye’s approach to fashion, his focus on authenticity, and his ability to shape culture through his brand have influenced how I think about building my own brand.
By absorbing their thoughts on pushing boundaries and evolving with the culture, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of how to navigate the fashion world while staying true to my own creative vision. Their journeys have shown me that it’s not just about making clothes—it’s about creating something that connects with people on a deeper level and reflects the world around us.
