We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alexis Backus a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alexis , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?

The name AK Boudoir comes from the combination of mine and Kailey’s initials. We wanted a way to showcase the collaboration on our boudoir business, and something that was easy to remember. Our individual businesses, AC Backus Photo and Kailey Howell Photography, include our names so it seemed like a good route to go to keep things consistent.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

We’ve always believed that boudoir portraits should not only be comfortable and empowering, but accessible for all women. We stand by our inclusivity and strive to make all our clients feel their very best. We want to make sure our clients feel like they are with a close friend during the whole process, from booking to shooting and delivery. More times than not we end up becoming friends with our clients which makes this feel even less like work.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?

Kailey and I met in 2017, when we were both avidly doing concert photography. After consistently seeing each other at shows and chatting on social media, a friendship formed. When Kailey started her own online publication, Resurget Magazine, she asked me to join the team. When COVID hit and concerts were practically non existent, we found another passion in shooting weddings together. We work so well in unison across all kinds of photography, and our editing style is so on par with each other, that we decided to launch AK Boudoir in 2022. Whats better than running a business with your best friend?

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

We love getting positive feedback from our clients, it’s truly so rewarding to hear directly that we’re able to help women see themselves as sexy and in a positive light. Your feedback matters most to us and every deserves to see themselves in this way. There is so much negativity and stigma around how a woman should look. We aim to break that and show every client just how lovely and unique they are every woman matters.
