We were lucky to catch up with Alexis & Aliyah Harris recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alexis & Aliyah , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project we’ve worked on so far has definitely been our first film project, Greenwood Grove. Not only did we get the chance to lead in it, but we also had the chance to work behind the scenes. This project was everything we had hoped for and more. After years of going on hundreds of auditions and facing so many close calls with bookings, we realized we needed to create a place where we could showcase our own creative work and acting. It was important to us. My mom would also tell us, “If Hollywood doesn’t offer you a seat at the table, get some wood and build your own!” Greenwood Grove was the perfect way to build our own table and carve out a space where our creativity could shine. It felt amazing to know that we created something that reflected who we are as both actors and creators.

Alexis & Aliyah , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We started acting when we were just 8 years old, and from the very beginning, we knew this was something we wanted to do. It didn’t take long before we nailed our first commercial just a couple of months in. A month later, we were cast in or first horror movie, Kinderfanger. That experience was so exciting and a little scary, but it really set the stage for us wanting to star and write sci-fi horror projects, Greenwood Grove, and our latest project, When A Stranger Knocks. After that, we were approached to start modeling, which was a totally new experience and we loved it. We got to work with amazing brands like Filters by Naomi, Kaveah, Miss Behave Clothing, and rip the runway for the Ladylike Fashion Show and The Fashion Life Tour. This definitely created a strong presence as helping to build our brand and promote on social media. This inspired many brands to collaborate with us, building an even stronger social media presences and promote our new magazine, Teen Squad Magazine, designed to promote the work of other amazing teens in the industry like us. What we’re most proud of is that we’ve been able to do all of this on our own terms, building our brand and creating space for ourselves in the entertainment world. It’s not just about acting anymore, it’s about being creators, doing what we love, and staying true to who we are.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being a creative is being able to bring our ideas to life and see them connect with people. Whether it’s acting in a scene, creating a new project, or sharing something on social media, there’s this feeling of fulfillment when we see our work touch others. It’s amazing to create something that reflects who we are and know it might inspire or entertain someone else. Being a creative also means we have the freedom to tell our own stories and express ourselves in ways that make us feel authentic.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
There are definitely resources we wish we had know about earlier in our creative journey. One thing we wished we’d explored more was the indie side of creative work. We’ve learned so much now about how you don’t always have to wait for a big studio to make your dreams come true. It’s really about being resourceful and finding ways to create on your own with a good team. We also wish we had taken more film production classes while we were younger. Understanding the behind the scenes process and how everything comes together has been super helpful in our own projects. If we’d known more about these resources earlier, we feel like we could’ve been even more ahead of the game!
