We recently connected with Alexia K. Orozco and have shared our conversation below.
Alexia K., looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I have always been a creative person, I remember as a kid I felt like I had so many ideas my imagination would never stop running. I never really thought I would become a model, but I always knew deep down I would find my way into some creative outlet in my adult life. I first learned how to runway model while I very briefly attended some classes at an academy. After I felt I had outgrown that environment I then took it into my own hands to research every little possible thing I could do that I felt would make me a better model, and I’ve continued to do so ever since. Knowing what I know now, things that I could have done to speed up my learning process could have possibly been just trusting my intuition when it comes to my skills and trusting that I deserve to be in the spaces I am in. Impostor syndrome has always been an annoying issue I have dealt with as i oftentimes find myself not feeling as confident as I should and that loss of confidence greatly affects you and your work as a model. Confidence is absolutely essential, and even if you do not have enough confidence but just a little sprinkle of it, just fake it till’ you make it! It truly works wonders.
Alexia K., love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is ALEXIA, and I have been professionally modeling for a little over a year and a half now. I first began modeling as a way to boost my self-esteem since it wasn’t the best and I wanted to do something for myself to feel more comfortable within my own skin. I researched, practiced, and did everything you could possibly imagine in order to make myself a better model and it has truly paid off. I offer modeling and creative direction services as well as assisting whether it be either on a set or styling, I love to be helpful in any way and love to create different art concepts with others who are also willing to do so. I would say what sets me apart from others is the kind of pictures and photoshoots I try to aspire for, as I like to create pictures with creative concepts people haven’t seen or typically don’t see. I feel as if on Instagram especially there tends to be the same kinds of photos over and over and I am looking to overcome that. I am most proud of being the most authentic creator I can be, especially in a current society where it is popular to be a follower rather than a leader– I pride myself on the fact that my work and I will always stay true to me & myself.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
One of the most rewarding aspects of being a creative is the freedom that comes with it and the connections you make along the way. I work a 9-5 job Monday-Friday and being able to create and do photoshoots in my spare time is truly what keeps me sane. There is so much creative freedom that comes along with creating art and photoshoots that my mind is always running with tons of new ideas I can’t wait to execute. Being able to create and do so alongside like-minded creatives and artists who see the same vision as you do, creating those connections is so important and truly one of my favorite parts of creating with new people.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I would say that the biggest goal driving my creative journey is to not only continue working with like-minded individuals and creatives but to also continue to create work that is authentic to myself and what I believe in! Any company or product I ever work with will always be a true testament to my experiences as I strive to always remain authentic to myself and those who follow me as well. In a world where it is a lot more popular to be a follower rather than a leader, I will always be honest and truthful when working with other creatives and especially when working with other products or companies.
