We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alexia Acebo. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alexia below.
Hi Alexia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I’m not what you would call a stranger to risk. I love it, I’ve chosen it in most areas of my life and I plan to continue forever because in that margin is where I feel like I learn the most about people, life, and myself. At the end of 2021, I made a decision to leave my salaried job in fitness and start my company, THE BKFST CLUB, in order to do meaningful work and free myself up to approach the opportunities that were waiting in the theatre industry that I wanted to call home. I made the preparations, built the timelines, and jumped on December 31, 2021. By March of 2022, I had 15 active health coaching clients and just booked the National Tour of Wicked. I don’t believe in luck but I do believe in risk and what happens when we take it. I think the universe, God, and every power that may be is listening to the decisions we make and when we show readiness, we’re presented. As I look down the tunnel of risks ahead, I can only hope I’m met with the abundance that 2022 brought, because ultimately, I gained the people that make the risk possible and worthwhile, and for that, I’m so grateful.
Alexia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Of course! My name is Alexia Acebo and I’m so happy to be a part of this, truly. I identify as an artist- currently working as a dancer, singer, and actor on the Broadway National Tour of Wicked. I LOVE my job, I can hardly call it that. But that’s where you’ll find me 8 times a week all across the US at the moment. While I’m traversing the country I am also running my women’s wellness health coaching business, THE BKFST CLUB, helping women all over the world navigate the food on and off their plate to manage weight, heal hormone imbalance, recover food relationships, and so much more. I love being able to switch between these two spheres of my life and use my brain in such different ways every day. But most of all, I love the people I get to do it all with. So for me, it’s all just a medium for relationship!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
That it has to be hard. And honestly, I’m still unlearning this. The professional dance world glorifies hustle and hard work and so do I. But when I was faced with hormonal imbalances, weight gain, acne, sleeplessness, and an absent period, I had to rethink the way I was pushing through my life. I don’t think the practice will ever end, but right now, I’m trying my best to listen to my body each day and navigate in the way it’s asking me to.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Truth! I began THE CLUB as some silly IG stories on my personal account and peppered in some nutrition, hormone health, and food relationship tips along the way. It really caught people’s attention and I think they were drawn to the transparency. The wellness industry feeds on scarcity, insecurity, and lack. I hope to always operate on the opposite- being abundant in my personal truth and willing to share, while also helping others find theirs.
