Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alexandria Singleton-Smith. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alexandria, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
When I was a little girl, my mother sold Mary Kay, and I would sneak into her makeup bag and take the makeup samples. This is where my love for makeup began. I then started to do makeup on my classmates and friends for school events. From that moment on, I knew I wanted to pursue makeup professionally.
Alexandria, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Alexandria Singleton-Smith, also known as Mua.Alexandria, I was raised in Sacramento, California. I started in the industry young since my family is in the entertainment business. During weekdays I worked at my Uncle Cedric Singleton’s record label “Black Market Records.” Not only did I work as an office administrator, but I would also do hair & makeup for video shoots, album covers, and movies. I also appeared in music videos. I was then discovered and signed by a modeling agency where I did print modeling and appeared in magazines. During the weekends, I also worked as an apprentice at my friend’s salon doing hair and makeup. Two summers ago, my fiancé Quentin Smith, now husband, and I went on vacation and visited Atlanta, we fell in love with Georgia, so we left California and moved to Georgia. He started cutting hair immediately and has become a very popular barber in Atlanta.
Coming from a family with a well-known legacy in the entertainment business, I decided to follow in the footsteps of my Father and Uncles Cedric Singleton and the late John Singleton. I started my YouTube channel, mua.alexandria, and working on creating a makeup line.
Being a makeup artist/ influencer, it’s essential to stand apart. What sets me apart from others is my passion for my art. My love for my art helps me stand out, inspires my creativity and ability to think outside the box, and gives my viewers and clients quality work. I’m proud of myself for setting an example that you can have the marriage, the kids, and the career and not fall short.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My greatest motivation in life is my family. They are the ones who give me the courage and confidence that I need for me to keep moving forward no matter what the obstacles are. So I would like to thank my Husband Quentin, my Father Anthony; my Mother Lisa; my Mother-in-law Joanne; my babies Angel, Marques, and Damar; my Sister Alyssa; my Brothers Anthony & Dionte’—also, my Niece Mia and Nephew Noah. There is no doubt about them being the biggest motivation in my life. I can’t imagine being where I am today without their sacrifices and motivation, which means a lot that I must pay back. That alone motivates me to keep grinding.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Seeing my client’s inner confidence shine through after having their makeup done by me is a great feeling. And being able to inspire and teach many people worldwide via YouTube brings joy to my heart.
