We were lucky to catch up with Alexandria Rizik recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alexandria, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
The poems featured in “Pieces of Me” were crafted over the span of several years. Initially, my intention was not to compile them into a book, but rather to engage in the act of writing poetry as a personal expression. As words flowed to me, I transcribed them onto paper. However, a moment of realization struck me, prompting the idea to consolidate all my poetry into a cohesive book.
The profound impact of poetry as a therapeutic outlet in my own life has been undeniable. It is this very significance that compelled me to share these heartfelt words with readers who may be seeking solace. Through the medium of poetry, we can forge connections and communicate on a profound level. It is important to recognize that words possess a depth of meaning that often goes unacknowledged.
Within the pages of this book, you will find poems inspired by various muses. As a tribute to these muses, I have incorporated subtle symbols and messages throughout the cover and within the lines themselves. These hidden elements serve as an homage to the sources of inspiration that guided the creation of these poems.
Alexandria, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have been a writer since I was a kid. It all started when I was a young girl, my aunt who is also a writer, bought me a journal and told me to write her a story. The rest is history. I have published four books and have filmed a handful of screenplays that I have written. I think one of the things I’m proudest of is my fortitude and perseverance as a writer. I have faced a lot of rejection, but that has never deterred me from following my dreams and accomplishing my goals.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I have a lot of goals as a writer, but one major one is having a New York Times bestselling book. I keep writing. Keep creating. And I know I’ll eventually achieve that goal.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being able to express myself and connect with others who find joy in my writing.
