We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alexandria Rising a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alexandria, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?

The most meaningful projects I have worked on are the ones that transform how a person feels and views their body. I’ve done many scar coverups, tattooed people who have suffered from skin conditions, and people who are insecure about certain parts of their bodies. Helping people fall in love with the parts of their bodies they’ve been insecure about is so special to me. My purpose in life is to turn everything and everyone I touch into art. And, that is how I live my life.

Alexandria, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My name is Alexandria Rising, I am a tattoo artist specializing in Sacred Armour-style tattoos. I work out of my private studio located in downtown Toronto. My work merges ancient tribal symbols with ornamental-style tattoos. Each piece is intentionally created to serve as spiritual protection and to fit their body like a “Sacred Armour”. The purpose of my work is to help the wearer connect with their inner warrior.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

Being creative is like having a superpower. It gives you the ability to heal, empower, and impact the world around you. The gift comes with great responsibility. It is important for creatives to hone in on their unique powers and learn how to use them to make this world a better place. Even if it is on a small scale, if you can impact one person with your art – it ends up having a ripple effect.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

A lesson I had to unlearn is that we don’t always have to play by the rules. In fact, it is best to break them. That is how good art is made. It is when you quiet the world around you, connect with your inner world, and let your imagination run wild.
