Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alexandria Kenyon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alexandria, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s talk about innovation. What’s the most innovative thing you’ve done in your career?
The most innovative thing I have done with my career was to take a massive pause to heal my trauma, retrain my nervous system, & develop my spiritual abilities. Before taking this pause, I was burnt out. After quickly scaling a photography business to 6 figures in less than 2 years, and then sustaining that for another 3, I was overwhelmed with anxiety and depression, and operating from unconscious belief that people’s needs matter more than my own.
My pain was bubbling up to the surface to be addressed and I knew I needed to take the time to be with myself. We live in a culture that pressures us to perform, as if our achievement is what brings us love, validation, and contentment. But does it really if we are always chasing more? I often ask myself what do I define as success? And simply — it is having space and resources to follow what resonates with my heart. I do that by releasing the pressure to be the picture perfect ‘successful hustling entrepreneur’ and instead slow it way down, to bring in my natural receptive gifts and align with feminine rhythms of the planet.
It’s so interesting that we treat our businesses as if they aren’t an extension of our inner world. As if what we are going through internally isn’t manifested within our business for our soul’s growth.
If you’re a creative entrepreneur, your business is YOU.
And that means all aspects of you are going to be present in its operation, including your shadow, your wounded inner child, your attachment, your inner critic, your ancestral conditioning, your trauma, your personal relationships, money stories, your energetic karma, etc.
And even more-so if you’re creating a CONSCIOUS business that is in alignment with joy, integrity, growth, healing, and lights up your passion, the blockages are going to come up even quicker than if you’re simply working to make money.
I believe that it is why so many people quit, they get burnt out because they experience a trigger in their business and they don’t have the proper systems or tools to create balance within their unique flow [we are all so uniquely different, especially humans in female bodies who are operating on a 28ish day hormone cycle where productivity isn’t consistent.]
If I am honest with myself, my nervous system prior to doing the healing work was SHOT. I would be extremely reactive over minor inconveniences and this was keeping me s t u c k.
To go back to the question, the most innovative thing I have done within my career was to take space to learn ME via psychic training, healing work, human design, breathwork, nonviolent communication, and meditation.
I have really surrendered to approaching my business via my feminine flow & soul alignment. And that means taking time to rest and not always being on, even if that means I make less money — my priority is building a sustainable, energetically aligned business, so that it FEELS GOOD OVER TIME and so that I can sustain it while being in integrity with my needs. I do also want to say that I recognize that being able to take time my time is a privilege.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I started my entrepreneurial journey when my misogynistic boss told me to go f*ck myself after I called him out for trying to take advantage of a military woman who wanted a refund for something she bought 2 hours prior [that she was well in her right to do].
I walked out on the spot– picked up an old Nikon D3100 that my friend let me borrow and scaled a photography business to 6 figures in 2 years. I was 22.
I was even impressed with how quickly everything aligned, I had more clients and more money than I had the experience to handle, but somehow I made it work.
After experimenting with all kinds of photography, I niched with boudoir/women’s empowerment photography. For 4 years I helped women see themselves through a compassionate unconditionally loving lens, dismantling the frame of the collective [and honestly traumatic] conditioning that tells women how we should look, feel, relate to, and own our bodies. I captured women in their 50s having sexual awakenings, owning their pleasure for the first time, and women in their 20s working through disordered eating and relational trauma, I help space for many different stories >> while delivering luxury custom products that could be loved well over time.
In 2018 my mom died, unexpectedly and with that, all of the parts of me not in resonance with truth died with her.
It was a slow, but paradoxically quick process of spiritual awakening. It was painful and ungrounding, I had to look at parts of myself I didn’t know I had the capacity to love, all while holding space for the energetic craziness that is activating psychic gifts, alone.
In 2019, after apprenticing with a psychic medium in Wilmington NC, I came out as a psychic medium online and started doing readings. Coming out of the witches’ closet brings up A LOT, and through that experience of finding more truth about myself, I lost a lot. I closed down my photography business, I left my marriage, and I moved to Asheville NC to start a life that I was finally creating for me.
After moving to Asheville on an outdated dream of opening a photography studio, I opened a space and closed it down in the same year, [I’m getting comfy with ‘failure’ in this life] the universe was like you’re either all in on psychic development or your not. I had been mentoring clients on and off since 2019 but wasn’t quite ready to take the leap until I signed up to work with my own spiritual mentor in august 2021.
So starts my online coaching business, where I help creative visionaries build & sustain their conscious businesses through energetic support coaching. I use practical systems like human design, my laser-focused, professionally trained psychic awareness, and hypnotic meditation, to help my clients move from stuckness to ease, so that they can feel passionate and in integrity with what they’re creating on this planet.
Energetic support coaching what is it?
It’s everything. If the world is made up of energy, so are you. I help my clients become aware of what makes up their unique energy signature and how they can use that signature to create the most joyful flow.
To simplify the process — I help you become aware of what is holding you back from making sustainable $$$ via your dream creation, [hello self-doubt, inner critic, people pleasing, nervous system dysregulation, unprocessed emotions, energetic patterns, mother & father wounding, ancestral conditioning, past lives, and outdated communication styles].
We bring the energy that wants you to stay stuck into present time via meditative hypnosis and breathwork, and with awareness comes the ability to make choices that create new pathways of success.
I support you as your feel your feelings and embody your sensitivity, so you can break down the armor around your heart.
Coaching with me is FUN and there are no rules. I trust the universe to bring in whatever it is, organically — we can release effort and trying. The only guideline is are you feel safe to speak your truth and make your own decisions.
Working with me is activating! — you’re going to get clear if your brand is in integrity with your soul via relaxing guided meditations, higher self-connection channels, and creative workshop spaces.
The client’s that are drawn to me are the self-help mystics that are here for the big alchemical transformation in all areas of their lives knowing that they will not be the same person that began this journey, they will have access to more of their own soul in their bodies.
The main thing I want people to know about my brand is that I am doing this from a place of my own energetic alignment, ie supporting my body and taking care of myself mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.
So there will be spaciousness, naps, taking weeks off, following what lights me up, doing my own shadow work, developing through my own training, and feeling full supported by my own team.
This process has never been about rapidly scaling, I’ve done that and it was fun but I am looking for sustainable growth over time, so my nervous system stays regulated and I have the capacity to be present for the magic that is unfolding. I don’t want to miss anything, this life is too precious.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Resilience, a dear friend.
The stories that come to mind are stories of trust and the capacity to move through resistance — and honestly feeling my feelings in their entirety.
Being an entrepreneur can be scaryyyy! We sometimes don’t know when the $$ is going to come or wtf we are doing. The feelings that come up almost every day are fear, frustration, discouragement, rejection, self-doubt, and sadness that turns into hope, excitement, renewal, and passion – like a wheel that keeps spinning.
I am often met with a question from the universe, is this what you want? are you sure? are you willing to be disciplined for it, are you willing to struggle for it a bit if it pays off in the long term?
My spiritual awakening has put me through it, death — grief — panic attacks — heartbreak — give this up give that up, then a pandemic, survival energy amplified, my fear amplified.
It brought me questions of who are you if you don’t have wealth, who are you when you do have it — who are you beyond being a business owner, who are you when you’re alone, who are you without it all, will you follow your intuition even if it doesn’t make sense, do you trust yourself? Can you love yourself? — it had to be answered and is still being answered.
My definition of resilience is showing up in trust even when you’re scared, and I have been SCARED af on this soul journey.
Here are the times that come to mind when I was scared and did it anyway:
– when I chose self-respect and quit my job to pursue my dream in 2014
– when I showed up to my first photography session 2 weeks after my mom died.
– when I trusted myself to close my boudoir photography business even though it was my only source of income
– when I invested $$$ I didn’t know I would make it back with a coach that changed my entire life
– when I show up every week to psychic training even though it brings up a lot of my pain
– when I ended my marriage in the most conscious and loving way I could
– when my whole world was collapsing and I chose to move to Asheville alone
– when I chose to prioritize myself after a lifetime of prioritizing others.
– every day I choose to be an entrepreneur in a female body
– when I choose every morning to live a life that follows my path even when the growth is incredibly uncomfortable.
The courage to show up daily is our resilience.
And I will say the most impactful parts of my journey have been, the loss of my mother and the loss of my relationship with self and source. My resilience is the capacity to find love, to find myself, and to find purpose through the very painful things that have tried to clip my wings.
Spoiler alert, I’m still flying and it’s finally starting to feel like gliding.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Okay long story short, my businesses have always been created by nurturing my community. My photography business started by me hosting a party for fellow military wives, they became my network and basically referred me to all of photography clients.
I am a 4th line in human design which is called the opportunist. As an opportunist, I am here to network and build relationships. Most of my opportunities come to me through the people I know ie word of mouth referrals are the best way I grow! Not everyone is a 4th line (there are 6 total lines with 12 profile combinations — get with me if you’re intrigued about how you show up in the world via human design).
By investing my energy and resources in my core community, and coaching clients that keep coming back I feel a lot of fulfillment and ease. It’s not always about finding NEW clients for me, but about developing myself and offering things to my core community first.
I form my social media posts around what will bring me the most joy and best inform my community.
I am here to form deep connections with my network. So social media networking is vital for me, but in a way that I am still selective about who I pour my nurturing into — it has to be reciprocal.
Tips for Social Media, BE AUTHENTIC, and know that social media is a place people what to go to know about you — they are reading your energy whether you know it or not.
Your images matter, your voice matters, and your stories matter. You’re also not for everyone. I find that we have become obsessed with scaling our social media numbers >> it’s not about that for me. I have a following of about 4K and still sell 4K coaching packages. My goal is to create and cultivate relationships via social media with my potential clients where they feel supported and connected to their own truth and power. It’s about quality relating not quantity for me.
We learn through storytelling, so tell your story. I love following people who share about the shadows, the hard work, and the limitations. Be authentic, and share the hardship too — it’s not devaluing your brand to create humanity within it.
Remember you are not for everyone, you want to repel the people who aren’t in alignment with you so you don’t waste precious energy and resources.
BE WEIRD and have amusement that is the best way to attract your fellow weirdos. Don’t pressure yourself to show up everyday, I don’t have consistent energy for that [I’m a quad right emotional manifestor, via human design] so it’s imperative to show up for me when the timing feels right instead of every day consistently.
