We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alexandria Johnson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alexandria, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, let’s imagine that you were advising someone who wanted to start something similar to you and they asked you what you would do differently in the startup-process knowing what you know now. How would you respond?
One of the main things that I would do if I were to start over would be to have more automations in my business. Things like automated emails, automated social media posts are so important to saving time to focus on day to day tasks.
Alexandria, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Prissy Potions was created by Alexandria Johnson, a wife and mother of two girls who desired to share her healthy skin journey using products with vegan ingredients to achieve amazing results.
She knew the importance of knowing what is in your products and wanted to create healthier options for the whole family. The result is a brand that delivers products that contain natural ingredients and are effective.
“It’s my passion to create products that smell amazing, are skin healthy, and cruelty free. I believe that everyone deserves to feel good in their own skin, and we’re here to make that happen.”
-Alex
We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
I began experimenting after watching a few videos on YouTube and reading articles about how to create skincare products, so I am self taught.
I have to say, it was not an easy journey but very fulfilling because I was intrigued to turn my ingredients into skincare, so I enjoyed the full process.
In the beginning, it was a little bit challenging, because I had no clue where to start. So, I first began trying to make whipped body butter, and then I moved on to candles and soap.
At this point, I can say confidently that I have perfected my whipped butters (and all my products) but the butters are my staple because most whipped butters are made with a bunch of oils that melt and then solidify depending on temperatures, or they would melt in transit to the customer. Thats where I can say my butters are different.
In terms of my candles, I learned the difference between cold/hot throw and how to get the most scent and best burn out of your candle. With my soaps, I have learned to create really pretty designs.
I create, make, and sell multiple products, and the main thing that my Potionette’s love is the scents and the strength of the scents. They last longer than average or other handmade skincare brands, and are vegan and cruelty-free.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I am very serious about every customers’ experience when purchasing my products, so I make sure to respond to email’s and inquiries timely.
I also get personal with my Potionette’s, letting them into my life a bit and reminding them that I am a human (LOL) I’m a mom, wife and that for the most part I lead a normal life just like them. I also try to recognize my Potionette’s names, so if we interact on social media I feel like I know them as well and I’m able to address them behind their username.
For example, I can name several of my customer’s names, as well as their preferred potions, because they’ve ordered so much.
