We were lucky to catch up with Alexandria Jack recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alexandria, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
“If life’s a party, why not make it a Dinner Party” is an ode to my mental health journey battling anxiety, depression, and an eating disorder. Amidst this struggle, cooking emerged as an unwavering anchor, allowing my imagination to flourish boundlessly. Sharing these culinary creations with my loved ones became a source of immense joy.
Recognizing the healing and spiritual power of food, I developed a deep appreciation for its ability to heal and connect people. Through my social media and food writing, I enthusiastically share food stories, weaving together personal experiences and culinary adventures. It is in this spirit that I founded The Dinner Party Creative Consulting, formerly known as Alex & Co, an enterprise dedicated to curating food-centric social media content, content writing, and PR consulting services.
With a degree in Public Relations and Business from University of Houston, I understand how chefs and food company weave together a tapestry of flavors and textures, often embodying narratives of heritage and social activism. The mission of The Dinner Party Creative Consulting is to assist these talented chefs in telling their unique stories through strategic branding consulting, personalized crafted media kits, and facilitating connections with esteemed festivals and influential media outlets.
At The Dinner Party Creative Consulting, we believe that every dish is an opportunity to ignite conversations, invoke emotions, and foster a deeper understanding of the diverse culinary landscape. Together, let us embark on a journey of culinary storytelling, forging a path that celebrates the power of food to inspire, unite, and uplift.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My start in the culinary industry started when I raised pigs my high school’s FFA(Future Farmer’s of America) program. Before I received my B.A in Public Relations and Business from the University of Houston, I started my company Alex & Co. PR. My first client was my older brother’s waffle and ice cream shop in the Bay Area.
Since then I have represented chefs as their publicist. I help them secure placement in festivals, campaigns, cooking classes and speaking engagements. Being a food writer that stayed up to date with the food scene of Houston it allowed me to gain contacts as well. Which ultimately allowed me to build great relationships with people in the industry. My clients have been part of the South Beach Wine and Food Festival, Culinary Institute of America events and James Beard events.
In 2023, I decided to change the name of my company from Alex & Co PR to The Dinner Party Creative Consulting because we provide social media content, content writing and public relations consulting services to chefs and food companies. I have created content for restaurants and food companies like Postino Wine Cafe, Ray’s BBQ, and Latin Bites Kitchen. I have also created written content for Black Restaurants Week.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I recently unlearn was that I had to say “yes” to everything in order for me to be valuable. What I learned was that I can set boundaries and pivot to what I truly wanted to do and not say yes to every person that may want to be a client. One example of this was when I started creating more cooking content on Instagram. It was so liberating being able to do more of what I wanted to do. I’m so grateful for the the support with my content change. It allows me to show up as my authentic self, which ultimately allows me to showcase what “Living a Dinner Party Lifestyle” is all about.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Starting in this industry I thought that there was only one route to being a writer and PR professional. However, the more I stuck with my business and being a food writer, I learned that I can do anything I want and still be a food expert. At one point I did want to give up because I just felt like I didn’t fit into the industry the way that I wanted to or I was boxed into only one sector of the industry. However, I realize that as an influencer and content creator I can ultimately be accepted with my true mission.
Even with my business, I was so unhappy with the route my business was going. I don’t have to offer services I don’t enjoy or take clients that I don’t align with. Being a “recovering people pleaser” and learning these skills ultimately allowed me to create a more fulfilling and profitable business. It wasn’t until I made theses changes that I actually started to see more money because the quality of what I produced was sought after.
Sticking with this journey of finding myself within my business has had it tough moments but I am so glad I stuck it out because now I feel worthy of all of the amazing opportunities I have. As well I like the opportunities I have. Work rarely feels like work.
