We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alexandria Gartland a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexandria , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I would have to say the most meaningful project I’ve worked on was my first EP, “Wish Wash”. I had the songs ready for a couple of years, I had the title I wanted to use already, and the cover shoot idea. Bringing it all to life was the part that took a while, but once it was over, it was very satisfying to know that I accomplished it. I produced something tangible that once was only an idea in my mind. It took several creative brains, a lot of energy and work between everyone that helped out, but the overall product was something I was proud of and very excited that I got to share with the world.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a singer songwriter, recording artist, and teacher. I like to make pop/rnb music that at times can be influenced by other genres as well including afrobeats and reggaeton. Each song of mine is unique in the way it was created and what it was influenced by. I love catchy choruses, I think partly because that’s the type of music I personally like to listen to, so when I get a catchy chorus for a song I think to myself ,”this would totally be a hit”. Out of everything I’ve released so far, I am most proud of my EP, but I have a lot of things currently in the works that I am super excited to share too. If you’re looking for relatable music with a catchy chorus, take a listen to some of my songs! :)
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Just listen. Listen to the music we create and you’ll realize how much we put into it, how much work it takes, and how much we care.
Have you ever had to pivot?
My goals in life have been somewhat altered over the past year, and the truth is they change because of the people in my life. Your mentality can change just because of the confidence and care someone gives you, and it makes you realize that your goals really are just to be with your loved ones and live a happy life.
