We recently connected with Alexandria Fall and have shared our conversation below.
Alexandria, appreciate you joining us today. Do you feel you or your work has ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized? If so, tell us the story and how/why it happened and if there are any interesting learnings or insights you took from the experience?
I think that people have a big problem with lumping others into categories. As an artist with a decent amount of tattoos,I find that people often judge and make assumptions. They tend to assume my work would be all dark and creepy, and I am able to do that type of art, but most of my art is bright, vivid, and beautiful. People will act surprised when they see my capabilities, especially considering I am a rather young woman, and act like it is a compliment do so when in fact all I believe it shows is how quick they are to make judgements about others. I also see this with my look when I it comes to modeling. People often want to pinpoint me into some category, and tell me I should work with brands like Hot Topic, or Dolls Kill. While I don’t have any issues with these brands, I feel like these experiences highlight a deeper issue. Many people alienate those who are different than them rather than being open minded and kind to others. They remind me how important it is not to pigeon hole or stereotype people as well as how important all types of inclusivity are.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have been a traditional artist all of my life and have modeled since I was a teenager. I have always put time into my skills as an illustrator, painter, and sculptor, and see modeling as another art form where the medium extends to my body as well.
I love doing custom paintings of people’s beloved pets, or of their favorite animals, and just creating something absolutely beautiful and unique that tailors to each individual that I work with. I take the most pride in my fantasy and animal art, but people also love my realistic ocean pieces I make with real sand and I have been known for some really neat dark and surreal art as well. With my art, I want to bring joy into peoples homes and help them uniquely express themselves.
Modeling has also been a fun adventure for me because I believe it helps me express my unique style and that it contributes to inclusivity of models and people with tattoos.I have done photoshoots, music videos, have had the opportunity to work with many wonderful brands and amazing people and even use my own modeling to help myself market my art.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
The best way to support artists is to support their original work. Not everyone can afford original art, but purchasing artwork or commissioning an artist for something custom uniquely for yourself is the most exciting thing that can happen for a fine artist. They genuinely appreciate the support and you are truly helping their dreams come true, but if you don’t have a big budget and still want to support, there are other ways you can do so. One thing you can do is buy a print from them, or some other type of merchandise they might sell with their work on it. Even if you aren’t looking to spent money, something as small as liking their social media posts, leaving comments, or evening sharing their work on your stories or to friends can go a long way. Artists genuinely appreciate any and all support.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
In life, there are always going to be circumstances that alter your path. Rather that be your personal life or your career, there are always going to be changes, and you are always going to have to adapt. You can also always think of ways to grow, improve, and expand your skills and abilities. One of the most exciting expansions I am doing in my own life right now is diving more and more into tattooing. I’ve been a tattooed model for almost a decade now, and have been creating art my entire life, but for some reason never really seriously considered tattooing until fairly recently. Picking it up has been really exciting and fun for me and I have honestly learned extremely quickly and have been really happy with my progress. I feel like tattooing is a really social art form because every time you are creating the art, you are with another person, as you are putting it on their body, and as an extrovert, and an artist, which I believe is rather a rare combination, I actually love this. I’m taking it more and more seriously and believe I will be focusing a lot more of my time into this in the upcoming future so there are definitely a lot of exciting things to come if you enjoy my work and like tattoos as well.
