We recently connected with Alexandrea G. and have shared our conversation below.
Alexandrea , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
For me the biggest risk I ever took was leaving my full time job to start my art business. At the time I was working in a therapy office as the marketing manager and intake coordinator. It was fulfilling work but it was heavy work. I found myself not being able to create art. The thing that was the most important to me wasn’t happening! I decided to get a part time retail position until I was ready to make the big jump to full time!
That day came November 27th 2019. I did it, I took the jump! I was finally going to bet on myself! I was going to make this work!
And then two months later the world was shut down…. I couldn’t believe it. All my planning, applying to shows, buying and planning inventory…… and now there was no where to go and no where to sell! I was scared. My statement quickly turned from, “The world is my oyster!!” to “What have I done..”
After much thought and if I’m honest, some tears and some panic attacks. I realized I didn’t have a choice, I HAD to make this work. And through a lot of hard work, countless hours and a lot of belief in myself. It did! I have been running my art business for five years now! I have traveled to countless cities to show my work, met so many incredible people who have become not only customers but friends! I began teaching art and found a love for showing students how to pull something from their mind and make it a reality!
Without taking a chance on myself, without taking that big leap, my life would not be what it is today! If you are a creative out there wanting to take the leap. Do it! Don’t wait until you have 10,000 followers, don’t wait until the next big show. Take a chance on yourself. Trust me, you won’t regret it!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am an artist and my primary focus is painting and drawing! I have found a love for digital illustration and creating clothing and other merchandise pieces!
One project I am particularly proud of is my Tarot Deck, Whispers from Below! This project took two years to complete and I am so proud of how they turned out!
I love to create work that toes the line of being unusual or odd. I would say my art would be categorized as modern surrealism or fantasy art. A lot of my inspiration and images comes from dreams.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I feel like my goals change every day! I am constantly inspired by fellow artists!
Right now one of my goals for 2025 is to work on my third solo show and connect with a gallery willing to show it!

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I think as a society something that can help creatives is simply showing up for us! That can be liking, following or sharing artists work on social media or buying your holiday gifts from artists instead of big chains!
