We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alexandra Villalba . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alexandra below.
Hi Alexandra , thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
When I first moved to Austin in 2014, I had no idea it was such a cultural and artistic phenomenon. I always loved writing and explaining my experiences in the written word, but something about the beautiful weirdness of the city just filled me with endless inspiration. Everywhere I explored there was something interesting to do, see, hear, eat, and experience! It was then I decided Yelp reviews just weren’t enough to show my excitement and passion about one of the coolest and most expressive cities I’ve ever moved to! That is when I created seemefeedmereadme, a lifestyle/culture blog that shares all the amazing, out-there, and underrated places, people, and things in Austin that I have encountered during my time here.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am a Marketing and Social Media Manager who has helped grow the social media and online presence of businesses all over Austin and Texas. I have a passion for writing and creating unique content, which I used to create my lifestyle blog based in Austin, seemefeedmereadme, in 2015. This blog is all about exploring the weirdest, most delicious and awe-inspiring corners of Austin. It’s also a chance to collaborate and shed light on talented artists, business owners, and creatives in Austin who offer a totally unique perspective. Through vlogging/video, writing, and photography, I tell the stories of Austin’s unexplored wonders and on-the-rise individuals.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I graduated with my BA in English, I accepted my first job in Austin as a Sales Representative for a technology company. While I’m forever grateful for the lessons I learned and opportunities I had there, I knew almost right away that sales was not for me. I did, however, manage to find success in merging sales and social media/email, and thus my transition to marketing began. I started focusing on ways to build connections and make impressions without knocking on doors, and this led the way for me to shape my future career as a Marketing and Social Media manager. These skills also helped me tremendously in building my online blog and brand seemefeedmereadme.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
When I began blogging I made sure to create social media profiles on all the relevant platforms. Hashtags helped a lot in the beginning, but what really made a difference was connecting with relevant people. It’s important to not only make new connections but also engage with them. There are people on social media who are experts at networking and collaborating. Also, being active on social media on a personal level is important because it helps to stay current on trends and what’s coming up. And follow successful social media experts, who are always posting great tutorials and tips to help build your social media presence.
