Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alexandra Sloan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alexandra, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump back to the first dollar you earned as a creative? What can you share with us about how it happened?

I was 7 months pregnant with my second child and was going to Texas A&M University Kingsville (online) for graphics design. While in school my sister asks if I can make her a logo for the business she was starting. It took me two days to finish her logo in those two days I truly fell in love with designing. I charge her $10 but she instead she paid $25 for it. That simple text-based design made me fall in love with creating something from nothing. Seeing the joy my little design brought to my sister showed me that I can bring unique joy to people to make them forget about the past and enjoy that moment wearing something I created. My sister pushed me to put my work out into the world I was scared no one will support me but I was wrong. I want to thank my sister Antoinette for believing in me when no one else did and for being my first customer. Two years later AJ Unique Creations LLC is way more than graphics it’s a brand that helps you feel amazing and unique for being you. It’s ok to be different just own it and be you.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

My name is Alexandra Sloan I’m the owner of AJ Unique Creations LLC. My business is named after me and my family because one day this business will be theirs. I started this business for people who feel like they don’t fit in with society my brand is about making everyone feel unique. I love creating something new from graphic designs, custom apparel, custom bonnets, phone cases, custom name puzzles for kids, custom tumblers, and more. Every item is always made to order just for you nothing is premade because you can personalize everything. My proudest product is my custom bonnets because I have been natural my whole life and it was always tough to find a good bonnet for my thick curly hair. So I decided to make bonnets my customers can personalize the bonnets from the type of fabric cotton or satin, colors, and name if they would like. You can even add images on the bonnet. The bonnets are double layer some are reversible (satin/satin). Protect your hair in style if you are home or out of the house. My brand is more than what I sell it is about the experience and the connections I make with my customers when their dreams to reality.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?

Making customers’ dreams a reality. I make beautiful connections with my customer. Don’t forget what started your brand and the reason you do what you do. It’s not about the money but it does funds the resources to create a unique experience. At the end of the day, it’s about creating something that brings joy to my customers when they get their packages and unbox them at home. The little detail from stickers, thank you cards, and gifts. Creating an experience empowering you to be unique.

How did you build your audience on social media?

Time, patience, and consistency. Number one thing I tell everyone to be you don’t try to do what everyone is doing because everyone’s reason is different. Always post even when you feel it’s not worth it because the simplest rare video is the best one. Nothing happens overnight yes you hear that all the time but it’s true. You have to be your advertising campaign because no one is going to do it for you. You are the brand never forget that instead of wearing a designer be the designer you want people to wear. Just go at your own pace because everyone has their own time to shine.
