We were lucky to catch up with Alexandra Sczudlo recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alexandra, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
I hope my business and my successes in the automotive industry influence other woman to become more involved. The automotive industry is primarily male dominated. This can deter a lot of young women from entering it regardless, if they’re passionate about cars or not. I hope that by following my passions and achieving my goals, I can become a role model for other women looking to join this industry.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Alex Sczudlo and I am a photographer based in Scottsdale Arizona. I specialize in automotive photography, but I also do portrait and product work. I got into this industry through a passion for cars. Automotive photography gave me an avenue to get up close and experience vehicles I’d only dreamed of seeing. I offer a variety of photo shoot packages for individuals and businesses. I specialize in creating high-quality content for my customers. One of the things that sets me apart from others in this industry is my established niche, I have branded myself as a Photographer, who specializes in Exotic and Highline vehicles. Another thing that sets me apart is I am one of the few female photographers in the automotive industry. I am very proud of a few things, including the quality of my work, and that I have made so many of my childhood dreams and passions into reality. I have created a business for myself where I am constantly surrounded by some of my favorite things in life and have built a business around them. It reminds me of the old saying do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life, that’s what my business feels like. It’s because of this love for what I do that I always deliver quality work at a high standard.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I first started an Instagram page for my photography six years ago. I was not a naturally gifted photographer. It took a few years of teaching myself, the trade and the skills necessary but eventually my work began to receive recognition. Two years after picking up my camera, I received my first publication in a local magazine. Slowly but surely I grew my Instagram presence. With an ever-changing algorithm the only real avenue to success is persistence and quality content. of course, that’s not to say forget the algorithm all together, studying the algorithm and its changes can improve your chances of a viral post, which can double or even triple your audience in weeks. while first growing my page, I was posting every day and networking with other individuals in my trade. Six years and two viral post later I’m nearing a goal I once thought impossible, twenty thousand followers. In comparison to some this is still a low number however to add perspective, say these photos were in an art gallery and 20,000 people walked through the door, that would be a pretty amazing day.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Being woman in the automotive industry. You have to be resilient and have fairly thick skin. It’s easy to become discouraged especially from some of the negative online attention you can get. There are many misconceptions and stereotypes about women who like cars. These can at times be tough to navigate. It can take a lot of resilience to keep working in an industry, where crass comments towards myself, and other woman can be common.
