Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alexandra Harris. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alexandra, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
Creativity is like breathing for me. It’s the way I see the world and move through it. Summing up all of the broken and misshapen parts into a beautiful and useful flow that allow all the world to make sense. It is a dream of mine to be able to make a living through writing, drawing and painting.
I am currently a case manager for adults with addiction and mental illnesses. What currently brings me joy is working to create a safe space for creative ideas and a new way of looking at things. That includes new ideas about fashion, travel, photography, art, and business.
Ultimately, helping people envision how a life they really love, and have dreamt of, is possible; through hard work and dedication is my company’s motivation. The best advice I can give is this. I think relationships are at the core of every great business. It’s how you treat customers and employees.
Every person on the team has an important perspective and role to make or break a company. You have to be willing to be open to new ideas and criticism. Some of the most important and positive growth for a boss and company happens because of criticism. If you are the boss, do not take yourself too seriously. You need to be willing to humble yourself and get “in the trenches”, and lead.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My grandmother is of Spanish -Mexican decent, and I moved to Spain to attend University of Valencia to deepen my understanding of my own heritage. Like many artists, I have been working with art most of my life.
I have always been a dreamer and believer in all things creative. I think it helps people to make sense of the world. The vibrant arts community and the exuberant love of life in Spain helped me to consider and create art in a new way.
When I returned to the US, I wanted a place to continue to bring creative ideas to life. My first product began as a problem-solving mission for a client who was interested in a way to incorporate her own ideas onto various media items. I worked with her to create an art print that matched her vision, and to produce these items for her.
I want to be sure clients feel involved in the process and love the results—and I use my international experiences and flexibility to help them to produce their best vision. My business is a new and exciting journey for me, and I’m proud that there’s so much more to come.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of making art is being able to use different elements to create something out of nothing. I love working with color—especially graphic pencils and metallic water colors. It’s also incredibly rewarding to surprise my clients with the work they are requesting to fulfill their own visions, and with unique drawings.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Art and photography have always been a passion of mine, and, you will get to experience some of my great journeys through the lens of my camera.
My hope and aspiration is to use part of the money earned selling my art to set up a nonprofit project for animals and people in need. Also, to show a new perspective on the world, the people around us, and our concept of what inspires us.
Thank you to everyone for your kindness and hospitality along the way. Our company’s website is still under construction.
