We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alexandra Gutiérrez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alexandra , appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
“I started creating art because it felt like a calling from my soul. After working in a pharmacy for a while, I realized that I was unhappy and decided to quit. Despite my initial fear, I took a leap of faith and showed my handmade earrings to a store, which ended up taking them. From there, I began to pursue my art while also working odd jobs like cleaning and painting houses and driving taxis.
My mission is to spread positivity and inspire others to follow their own passions, especially when it comes to allowing children to choose their own paths. I believe that doing what you love is the key to living a happy life.”
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Alexandra Gutierrez with AG37 Hawaii Creations and I am a Artist.I have always been passionate about the art of creation, and my journey in this industry started when I started creating art because it felt like a calling from my soul. I believe that doing what you love is the key to living a happy life.
As an artist and craft woman , I provide what my soul want to create from earrings necklaces boxes paintings my pieces are very unique Each creation begins with the bare image burned into the wood. After the image is completed I hand paint them for a unique and vivid look . I am dedicated to motivate people who cross my path to believe in themselves and follow their soul calling inspire them through my Art and I believe that my style sets me apart from others in my field.
What I am most proud of is to stop listen to that voice that was holding me back and take the steps to create the life I want to live and help others to do it too when people see my pieces and say I feel happy when I see your art that is an accomplishment for me . I am driven by my love for art I love to add beauty and innocence to other peoples lives , and I am committed to bring high frequency emotions to the world .
As an artist, I create unique pieces that combine mixed media techniques such as pyrography and acrylics. I work with a variety of materials, from hardwood canvas to raw wood, to create one-of-a-kind pieces that capture the beauty of nature and the human experience.
What sets my work apart is the intricate and detailed nature of my pieces, as well as the combination of different mediums to create a truly unique aesthetic. I take great pride in the quality of my work and the attention to detail that goes into each piece.
I want potential collectors to know that my art is not only visually stunning but also tells a story. Each piece is a reflection of my own experiences and emotions, and I hope that it resonates with others as well. If you are looking for a piece that is both beautiful and meaningful, I invite you to explore my collection and see the magic for yourself.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Throughout my journey, I have faced many challenges, but one experience in particular stands out as a testament to my resilience. I remember the day I decided to quit my bookkeeping job and become a full-time artist. It was a moment when my soul took the driver’s seat, and I let my heart lead me towards a new path.
After quitting my job, I found myself alone in Hawaii, having just gone through a divorce, with my family far away in Venezuela. I started making earrings, as I had always received compliments when wearing them. I decided to approach my favorite local store in Haleiwa to see if they would take my earrings. To my delight, the owner said yes, and this was the sign I needed to pursue my passion.
To make ends meet, I took on odd jobs like cleaning houses, painting, and even driving a taxi. While it was a big change from my previous office job, I felt free to create, and that feeling was priceless. I worked hard to create enough inventory to start selling at markets, from farmer’s markets to craft fairs to art shows.
Eventually, my work was discovered by a couple of galleries, and I knew that I had made the right decision. This experience taught me the value of perseverance and determination, even in the face of adversity. It reminded me that life can be unpredictable and challenging, but the best way to navigate it is by taking action to generate changes. I have the strength and resilience to overcome any obstacle that comes my way. I am proud of the resilience I have shown throughout my journey and am confident that it will continue to serve me well in the future.
Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
I have a couple of sales stories that make me believe that my pieces are made for a specific person. I make two types of pieces: those that are more commercial and those that come from my soul and express something deeper.
One of my pieces is an eye crying into a waterfall, and I made it without knowing why. I didn’t want to show it for a while, but after a few weeks, I decided to take it to an art show and see how people reacted. One man came and looked at the piece for a long time before putting it back. He came back a few more times before finally saying that he needed to have it. He explained that he had come to the island to scatter his brother’s ashes in his favorite waterfall, and this piece was the perfect reminder of that moment. It was then that I truly understood the power of art, emotion, and magic.
In another story, a lady stopped at my booth and started looking at my pieces. She picked one up and started crying, which was unexpected since my pieces are supposed to make people happy. I asked her what was happening, and she explained that she had come to the island looking for answers and had spent thousands of dollars on a retreat with a guru. She had not found her answer until that moment, on her last day, when she saw my art. She said that every question she asked would be answered by the piece, and that each piece I made was for a specific person. I was touched by her story and felt grateful to have created something that could have such an impact on someone’s life.
