We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alexandra Fresquez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexandra, thanks for joining us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard.
Im a singer, and also a nurse. I’m very passionate about helping others. It hurts me to see people struggle. When we can all help in some way. One of my main goals with my music is to be able to help people through my music, not just through a listeners experience, but by actively being involved in the community, and helping.
With every song release I do, I set up my merchandise profits to go to a charity, organization,or cause that’s important to me. I also enjoy doing music release events that can dually serve as charity fundraising event.
My goal is to keep climbing, in hopes that I can not only do something that I love full time, which is singing, but be able to give back in bigger and bigger ways, as my music reaches more and more people.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name Alexandra Fresquez. Im a singer songwriter, originally from Roswell, NM.! My sister and I grew up singing in our church choir. My dream has always been to be a pop singer. I was just too shy to pursue it, until I moved to Los Angeles after college. During that time I went through a rough break up, and some difficult situations. Through many of those circumstances, I kept realizing there is no time to waste, and the only one who was holding me back was myself. So I started working on my own music. I currently reside in my dream city of New York.
My music journey so far has brought me some awesome people, and also more success than I ever thought I would have. I was Recently named female vocalist of the year by the New Mexico Hip Hop Awards. I’ve been HMMA nominated twice, and featured in many sources including Yahoo news. Some of my recent music has had millions of views, and has been featured on multiple tv shows’ including MTV’s “Ex On The Beach”, “Ghosted” and the show “Skymed”.
I’m currently working on multiple new projects, and am always open and looking to work with new people as well. I so much enjoy the process of song creation.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the lessons that I’ve had to unlearn working in music, is that someone is “too old to do pop music”. I started working on my music later than most people would. This was something that was really hard for me, and I also let it get to me, but the only thing that did was make me feel miserable, and i wasn’t moving anywhere with having that thought. the more I realize is, that your age does not define you, and neither does society standards.
There are so many new ways of going about things now a days, that there is no reason anyone shouldn’t go for their dream because they think they’re too old.
I feel like. I’m also going about things in a smarter way now that I’m older, truly enjoying the process, and I’m finally making a good amount of money from doing something I love. I keep learning and keep growing.
Also on that note, One of my favorite people right now is Kylie Minogue. She is freaking killing it right now, and she is quite on quote “older.” Don’t give yourself these pretend barriers. You’re the only one putting them there.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In 2018 I lost my mom to cancer. It’s weird because as time goes on I feel like it gets harder and harder to not have her here. I really wanted to do something to honor her. So I released a song called “Flame” about cancer and how it can’t put out your flame.. I also wanted to give back in some way, so for that release, all of the profits from my merchandise go to cancer research.
