We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alexandra Boynton a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alexandra, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I am a Farmer-Florist! I own a quarter acre flower farm and we specialize in weddings and events. to Our mission is to create a cohesive design based on all of the visual details of your wedding, or event. We will not compromise on quality and seek out out local, seasonal product. We work hard to build strong client relationships and make the entire process a positive experience, seamless and fun! We work hard from seed to finishing touches on a bouquet, we are apart of the entire process. We work hard to bring each client the best of the best from that season.
Alexandra, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started in 2017 and took gardening classes because I enjoyed being outdoors. I was a Kindergarten teacher for 8 years and loved gardening. I started selling flowers wholesale and offering monthly CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) during the summer. I had a lot of interest from the public for events and weddings. Eventually, things we had so much interest, I was able to work full time as a Farmer-Florist and my passion became my full time career. We now primarily do weddings and events and sell wholesale. We pour our whole heart into building relationships with our community and the clients we work with. Our farm is truly a family-run flower farm, with my husband and kids involved. We believe in supporting local and giving back to our community.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
As a farmer, we have had many setbacks over the years and had to pivot last minute. We had late flooding and rain last year and it washed out thousands of spring flowers plants and bulbs. Weather is different every year and brings a huge variance to each season. With late rains into early summer, we had to do about 4 months of work in two weeks to re plant and prepare for the season. We worked tireless hours to turn over planting rows. Thankfully, we were able to adjust the crop schedule and pivot to have a successful season.
Have you ever had to pivot?
In 2020, when the pandemic hit. We were lined up for a full season of weddings and many clients had to re-book their weddings. As we spent time pivoting our events and weddings, the demand for local product skyrocketed. Wholesalers weren’t able to get shipments form overseas and local flower farmers could barely keep up with demands. It was a strong reminder to me that our product and relationships with the community and our clients was most important and what kept us going during hard times.
