We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alexandra Baker a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alexandra, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
Having never taken a formal painting class, I learned to do what I do through a raw need to paint I couldn’t explain and a focus on healing trauma rather than trying to paint a pretty picture. I needed to get what I was feeling out of me and onto the canvas and that became the most important part of the process. Healing Through Color is the tagline on my business cards and that’s exactly what I do. It was an innate part of me and I learned that the visual didn’t matter to me as much as the healing process of painting.
Alexandra, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am an abstract painter with a focus on spirituality and healing. Many times I pray while I paint, asking for healing for myself my viewers, and my Collectors. I’ve been painting for four years and the practice of painting has been life-saving for me. My paintings are a reflection of my emotions and can evoke emotion in the viewer. I believe this world needs healing and I feel we can do it together. I’m most proud of my publication in three editions of British Vogue. Having my paintings be published in such a prestigious publication was an honor. Alexandra Baker Fine Art is Healing Through Color, creating beautiful abstracts for the world to enjoy.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is doing what I feel I was designed by the Creator to do. Walking in your purpose is an amazing feeling I wish for everyone to experience.
How did you build your audience on social media?
My advice to those just starting out on social media would be to post what’s close to your heart and trust that the right people will find you. I’ve grown my social media presence by being myself and posting what means the most to me and my journey through paint and healing through color.
