Hi Alexanderia , thanks for joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Honestly remaining consistent in your advertising. For example I constantly post on multiple social media platforms. At first I didn’t see the benefit. With time my consistency brought me clientele and amazing opportunities to work with major companies. Networking events are always happening in Austin and 50% of the time they are free. So all you have to do is show up and don’t be afraid to mingle and put yourself out there.
Alexanderia , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I was originally inspired to join my field after diving into YouTube around 2011. Initially I had no desire to play in makeup, but one day I decided to go onto my laptop. Makeup tutorials were all the craze and it caught my attention. On my days off from school I would spend almost eight hours study makeup looks and practicing. When I graduated high school, my parents moved to Texas and I knew I wanted to enroll into cosmetology school. With lots of practice and research I performed my craft and had business cards made. The beauty of Austin is there’s a lot of up coming talent and I found local facebook groups helpful to collaborate and create content. I’m proud to say I’m living my dream and I know it’s only the beginning. I’m still learning in this industry and no matter how long you’ve worked in the field. There’s more to learn and gain.
Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
I worked a second job and still do in multiple different fields to help fund my own products. I’m big on shopping during major sales for makeup and hair products. You learn the hard way not to be waist full and intentional with your purchases. When you find your staple products for your kits, stick to it unless you’re elevating.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
My best source of clientele has been word of mouth, Facebook and Instagram. Which is why I stress others to post your content and add hashtags to your local area. You never know who you meet if you don’t put yourself out there.
