We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alexander Santistevan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alexander below.
Alright, Alexander thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What were some of the most unexpected problems you’ve faced in your career and how did you resolve those issues?
Modeling is not as glamorous as everyone makes it out to be. There are moments where I question my career and my choices, but for every bad moment there are 100 amazing ones. When I first began some unexpected problems I had to face was the judgement of others as well as from myself. Who was I to think of myself so highly? Who did I think I was trying to achieve a dream so high? Eventually I began practicing poses by myself in the mirror., I bought a tripod, began to location scout and started my own photoshoots fully operated by me. Not being able to trust anyone with my image except me was an issue I had to overcome. The anxiety of letting someone else photograph me because it felt too personal was scary. I overcame that soon enough when I began getting praise and attention from fellow creatives and slowly blossomed into the confident model I am today. Nobody can shame you for dreaming of you don’t let them.
Alexander, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As a professional model and content creator I provide a service for companies looking to establish their brand with my audience of 18-24 year olds. I got into this industry from acting in television shows as well as commercials, one day I auditioned for a modeling project and fell in love with this side of the entertainment industry. The thing I’m most proud of is that I’ve been able to work with amazing people along the way. Everyone has been a pleasure to work with and I could not have done this all on my own.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Instagram! I love it when fellow creatives such as photographers and other models reach out to me for projects.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social Media is a large majority of what I do. Understanding your strengths and weaknesses are essential to making a game plan. I first had to determine what I wanted my persona to be. Androgynous Austin Fashion. From there I began to storyboard some photoshoots I wanted to accomplish. For the first two years in my career I was my own makeup artist, location scout, stylist, creative director, model, and photographer. Everyone can do this it’s just not for the weak. Trust me burnout is a very real thing. If you’re starting to build your social media presence, understand your niche, who you want you audience to be, how and where you can reach them, hashtag optimization, retaining your audience through platforms, and then planning engaging content with photo and video!
