We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alexander Pineiro. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alexander below.
Hi Alexander, thanks for joining us today. Do you feel you or your work has ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized? If so, tell us the story and how/why it happened and if there are any interesting learnings or insights you took from the experience?
Let’s talk about labels. People love to put you in a box and keep you there. If you’re an actor people only see you as that, if you’re a writer people only see you as that and nothing else. I like to challenge that way of thinking and fling open Pandora’s box from within, letting out all of our hidden talent and creativity. I can do it all and I’m slowly showing the world that.
I’m naturally quiet. I am the introverts introvert. I like silence, meditation, reading, video games, playing instruments, writing, and working out. People mistake my silence for not having anything to say but on the contrary, I like to think that pockets of silence should not be broken just for the sake of making noise.
I’m also a big guy. I’m 6’3″ with wide shoulders and big feet. Some would even say an intimidating face. I get typecast as the bad guy all of the time. I use it to my advantage. However, a mislabel I get is being scary or mean. Honestly, my closest friends and family know that I’m a big teddy bear with lots of emotions and love for the people and passions in my life.
Regardless of this fact, I’m an actor and a producer. I get out there and I make projects that I want to see. I go to events and put myself out there to meet other like-minded individuals. I connect deeply with genuine people and I LOVE comedy. I am the opposite of what people think depending on the subject.
The point is that what other people think of you doesn’t define you or where you should be in life. The people who label you will never see you how you see yourself internally.
What matters is how you see and treat yourself.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Alexander Pineiro. I am an Actor, Writer & Filmmaker. Born and raised in New York City, now living as an LA transplant. I’ve been making films for almost 10 years and currently operate a hybrid production/performance business with my company, AP Suave Studios.
As a performer, I have lent my services to multiple prime-time co-star roles for shows like FBI, Dr.Death, Law & Order: SVU, and as a series regular on an Apple TV+ show called City on Fire.
As a producer, I work with independent businesses, brands (previously Culturelle, Manscaped, Prose, Inno Supps, and True Classic Tees), corporations, and filmmakers + content creators.
I’m currently co-producing my first SAG Comedy TV pilot to pitch to networks. My goal is to venture into the development side of TV/Film.
This is my life. I love crafting stories and inhabiting characters.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I didnt realize that I’d been living the life of an artist until I was almost 30 years old. Through years of self-reflection and behavioral therapy, I learned that deep down I’ve always wanted to tell stories and of course through many many many pages of writing unseen by the world throughout all stages of my life.
Writing has been my escape from reality, as well as my outlet of choice for weaving tales. My ultimate goal is to get people to feel something with my art. Anger, sadness, love, happiness, inspiration, curiosity, hate. Every piece of art that has put me in a trance-like state, that made me dream alongside the author. Those works motivate my desire further to be the creative conductor of a person’s emotions and tell stories that only I can.
There’s so much art out there that will go unseen.
Through the work I create I feel like I exist. That I matter. That I’m real.
I’ve felt a lot of loneliness in life because I’m not a surface-level person, I wear my heart on my sleeve. I want to have deep connections with people and the world. I hope to connect people with my work on an elevated level of love and wonder.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Book – “The Artists Way”: This was recommended to me by a fellow artist. There was a point in my life where I knew I needed to turn things around. It was right around the time that the pandemic hit in March 2020. This book unlocked something for me. Not only creatively but also spiritually. I always thought that the idea of people singing praise for something changing a person’s life was corny and fake until I read this book. It’s not only a read but a workbook. It’s work that you have to do internally while reflecting on your past and plotting for your future. This is work but it is worth it.
Resource – “Therapy”: Shortly after I finished reading The Artists Way I decided to delve deeper internally by going to Therapy. By talking to a professional, I learned more about myself and my habits. My therapist not only helped me understand my behaviors but also my patterns in approaching life, dating, and my emotions. This was a life-changing experience and I would recommend it to anyone seeking to enlighten themselves further on who they are. Therapy doesn’t only have to be for healing trauma.
Video – “ET / The S2S Podcast”: ET is a motivational speaker that I was put on to by a good friend of mine. I have been following his work for over 6 years but it wasn’t recently that I truly internalized his words and motivation. He has a podcast with other entrepreneurs centered around their business in real estate; however, the nuggets of wisdom and entrepreneurial advice carry over to any industry. Speaking truth and realness that I have never heard anyone else talk about. Those moments where you nod your head and go hmm. It’s pure business intellect and building blocks to success. I learned more about the value of investing in myself and my business by listening to their podcast and watching their videos.
