Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alexander Komet. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alexander, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
The one major thing I do differently then the industry standard is the amount of unfettered access I give clients to me and their dogs while in my care. I have had one client take full advantage of it and made sure to facetime their dog every night before bed time! Which is awesome! The biggest challenge is follow through from owners when we bring their dogs home so by giving them that access and level of attention it helps to motivate them and feel more apart of the training journey.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Alexander Komet and I am a 28 year old native of San Antonio, Tx. I was a Military Working Dog handler and trained dogs in Narcotics and Explosive detection as well as bite work while I served in the US Navy. It was there I really found my passion for training dogs and knew it was what I wanted to build my life around. After separating from the Navy I spent a year under the guidance of one of my mentors with over 20 years in the pet dog industry to help better transition my skills learned in the Navy to the pet dog world. For clients local to the DFW area I offer in home lessons. I also offer Board and Trains with pick up included anywhere in Texas although I have had clients as far as Boston. The thing that sets me apart from others is my style of fully breaking down everything I am seeing/looking for from their dog, what it means, and how to get the desired behavior. It is extremely important to me that my clients fully understand everything so it sets them up for more continued success down the road.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Word of mouth is king in my industry. Everyone knows someone with a dog and more then likely they know someone with a dog who’s behavior they complain about!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
My style of clear and open communication at all times. I can’t help my clients be successful if they are not open and honest with the behavior they are seeing in their dog, while on the flip side I owe it to them to be open and honest about what I am seeing and what that means. Those conversations can sometimes be difficult but they come out appreciative for the honesty and clarity.
