We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alexander Hepburn. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alexander below.
Alright, Alexander thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there an experience or lesson you learned at a previous job that’s benefited your career afterwards?
I am at a point in my life where I now understand what a pastor meant when he said, “Everything is training.” I worked in a small office for over a decade. I had to answer the phone, file paper, shred paper, conduct messenger work, make bank deposits, manage a website, package certificates, manage a data entry software, and whatever else the corporation required of me. There were times that I felt like I was overworked and underpaid. I came to the realization that “Everything is training.” An essential lesson I acquired at a previous job is that wherever you are now is preparation for where you want to be. I am passionate about music, songwriting, and social media marketing, so working a 9-5 made me feel like I wasn’t walking in purpose or that I was wasting my life, yet the same time I was in a gym being trained so that I wouldn’t mismanage the life that I’ve always desired. Just because I wasn’t doing what I loved full-time didn’t mean I couldn’t use my current situation as a training ground.
EVERYTHING IS TRAINING!!!!!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a songwriter, author, and recording artist from the Bahamas. I’ve been writing and performing music for around 13 years. I began releasing songs when I was 19 years old and have been doing so ever since. I write songs about my faith as well as mental health. My goal is to bridge the gap between faith and therapy; I am a prime example of how faith can support therapy! I have a mental health book out now called “Stay In The Fight” in which my goal is to encourage those who are struggling with their mental health and looking for a light or a shoulder to lean on during difficult times. I believe that if you are alive, you qualify for a win, and if you stay in the fight, you qualify for a WIN. The book is out now on amazon and gumroad.com. I’m here to inspire and motivate the mentally ill and those who feel unimportant because of their brain’s condition. In 2018, I was traumatized at the hands of a father figure in my life, which led to suicidal thoughts. I went to therapy, and the therapist remarked, “The brain can be retrained.” I ran with the notion! I began filming videos, and makings songs about depression and suicide prevention, which have proven to be a source of strength for individuals all around the world. The first video quickly went viral, garnering over 1 million views on Instagram. People all over the world were hearing “the brain can be retrained” and believing it, and they were seeing changes in their lives as a result. More people in the music industry need to speak out about mental health concerns, and we need more uplifting music that points people to love and hope rather than sending them down a path of destruction. Call me the mental health rapper! I’m sharing my story with individuals that can relate, and the ultimate goal is for us all to win.
“Stay In The Fight” and “Depression Won’t Win Today” are two of my favorite unreleased tracks; the titles alone tell you what my goal and objective are with my music.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
In 2018, I was going through a particularly difficult period in my life. I was contemplating suicide and feeling hopeless. Anger and emotional immaturity had caused me to put myself in an embarrassing situation, leaving me feeling humiliated, ashamed, and condemned. During this period of time, I also discovered that one of my heroes at the time, someone I referred to as a father, was actually abusing his position in my life to fulfill a toxic need in his soul. So imagine living with the guilt of hurting someone you care about because of uncontrollable anger, then discovering that your hero was actually wearing a mask to hide the fact that they were actually a villain. I had to navigate humiliation and betrayal, and I felt alone. I was determined to heal by whatever means necessary during this period, so I attended group sessions and one-on-one therapy sessions. The phrase “the brain can be retrained” forever altered my life. What appeared to be a dark valley worked in my advantage; the anguish gave birth to the mental health advocate.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I adore seeing lives transformed! I enjoy hearing individuals describe how ,y art has inspired them to keep going and never give up on themselves. Changed lives, is really the greatest reward.
