We were lucky to catch up with Alexander Crowley recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alexander, appreciate you joining us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I am very happy as a creative, I enjoy wrestling in front of crowds alongside my wife Lilith. We’re both creative people when it comes to a lot of things, gear(costumes), in ring, outside of the ring, writing scripts for our promotional videos where we speak about who we’re working for or who I am wrestling.
We are both also hairstylists during the week, so we continue the creative lifestyle outside of wrestling with our clients. We’re also both in school, she’s just finishing up an interior design program and I began a coding bootcamp in October.
I think it’s important to express your creative side, you never really know what you might discover.
Alexander, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I began my hair career at the age of 19, where I trained for several years before ending up in Chicago and became an educator in the beauty industry. I was lucky enough to travel all over the United States and educate other beauty professionals in hair fading, cutting, photography and social media tips to become more visible. I was also extremely fortunate to travel around the world to places such as Canada, Ireland, UK & Russia to do hair shows. In fact, Kristen(Lilith) and I were the first Americans to main stage at Salon International, the biggest hairshow in the UK.
It’s really important to figure who you want to be when it comes to branding, everything about you has to identify with your brand from the way you speak, dress and behave. You are your brand therefor you have to represent it well.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, personally, the most rewarding aspect of doing what I do, whether it be hair or wrestling, is the relationships built. I’ve seen my clients grow from teenagers to collage students. I’ve seen fans grow from children to teenagers. those connections we make with for our clients and fans are so important because without them, we wouldn’t be able to do the things we love doing. Relationships is the Core part of creatives, in my personal opinion.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
the best way for society to best support artists is to Support. Be there, attend a show, buy art, support any way you can. Sharing your friends work via social media or artists you admire cost you Nothing. That is the Best way to support creatives and independent artist.
