We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alexander Coleman a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alexander , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
If I’m being honest, I never felt fully understood or seen as my true self until I became an adult. As a child, I always knew I was “different.” I never fit in with the “cool” kids. Back then, I felt like had so much working against me—I was fat, black, gay. Shoot, by the time I was in
third grade, I was almost six feet tall, always standing out. No one in my family or circle of friends truly understood what I was going through, and if I’m being honest, it didn’t feel like they cared. It wasn’t until I moved out on my own as an adult and began embracing who I truly was that I started to feel at peace with myself. I believe God needed to pull me away from distractions to help me discover who I really am and help me feel comfortable in my own skin. From that point forward, I began to grow as a man and fully step into who I am, not caring of others opinion of me.

Alexander , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello, my name is Alex, but many know me as Lex or King Lex. I’m the host and creator of the podcast #NoFilter w/ King Lex, and I also serve as the Executive Producer for the new YouTube reality series The Crew: OKC on CRWTV. I ventured into podcasting because I needed a space where I could express myself authentically and without filters. Social media gave me a platform, but I wanted people to hear my thoughts and opinions in a more meaningful, structured way.
As for the reality show, becoming a producer was a role I hadn’t expected. But it’s amazing how God guides you toward your destiny in unexpected ways—it reminds me of the song “Order My Steps.” I initially joined the project as a cast member and co-producer, but over time, the creator of CRWTV, Wooda Lee, recognized my talents and began to rely on me more, eventually elevating me to the role of Executive Producer.
What truly sets me apart, I believe, is my unwavering faith and authenticity. I show up as my true self in every and any setting and I trust and believe that God will guide me down the path and ensure everything works out in my favor.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Working on my new YouTube reality series, The Crew: OKC, has been a true test of resilience! I joined the project in August 2023, and at the time, we were under the supervision of another Executive Producer, but things just weren’t coming together (no shade to anyone). Eventually, the creator (Wooda Lee) came to me and said that if we didn’t get things on track, the project would be scrapped. I felt uncertain and nervous, afraid that I might lose this opportunity. But instead of letting that fear take over, I decided to show up—not just ready to work, but ready to learn.
That decision not only helped us finish the project, but it also led to my promotion as Executive Producer. However, the journey was far from over. After we released Episode 1 and reaching 10K views in just a week, our platform was hit with a restriction that prevented us from using our established channel. The devastation and frustration was overwhelming. I thought this was the defeat I had feared. But my faith reminded me that God wouldn’t bring me this far just to leave me. So, Wooda and I regrouped, deciding to keep pushing forward, thankfully, we had a backup channel to pivot to, allowing us to continue the series without missing a beat.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
What truly drives and motivates my creative journey is the desire for people from my community to see that they can make it happen, alongside my unwavering faith in God. I was born and raised in Oklahoma City, and to be honest, there aren’t many successful people coming out of Oklahoma who look or sound like me. I want people to see me and think, “If Alex can make it, so can I.”
Yes, it takes a lot of hard work, and obstacles are guaranteed to come—but you have to push through! I promise, what’s meant for you will come in time.
