We recently connected with Alexander Aperture and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexander, thanks for joining us today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
I am definitely happy to be a business owner. I’ve worked countless jobs throughout my career and even though I love what I do I have straddled the thought of what it would feel like to have a regular job again. I imagine I’d get a regular job and quit half way through the shift. LOL The best thing about being a business owner is being able to make your own schedule and come & go as you please. Another awesome thing about being a business owner is that the possibilities are endless. There is no ceiling. You can make as much money as you want to. You aren’t capped to an hourly rate by your manager. You are the BOSS!
Alexander, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into this video production Industry by way of music. I picked up a camera as a hobby and began filming the artists that I created music with. Over time I seen that people were willing to pay me and I began to polish my skills. When I moved to Atlanta my career really took off. I moved to a place with an abundance of opportunities. I specialize in commercial content. I film promo content for realtors, fitness trainers, clothing brands, the beauty industry & more. What sets me apart from others is my turn around time & and how resourceful I am. I am most proud of the people I am able to help make a living. I have a team of people that I work with & it feels great to help them provide for their families. I am currently in the process of creating a course where I will teach people how to shoot like Alexander coming soon!
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
The first camera I ever purchased came from money that I saved working 3rd shift at Amazon. I purchased a laptop as well. I acquired more equipment over the years, mostly in Atlanta. Until I became the shooter I am today I would drive Uber in my part time and film in the meantime. I was actually fired from a job because I never wanted to stay later when asked because I had to go film at the club after my shift. Driving for uber at that time I saved more money for equipment and marketed myself so well that I never have to drive Uber again!
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been launching sponsored ads. I have only been running them on Instagram. I can only imagine once I utilize all platforms such as Facebook & Google how much business I will have. Having all that business comes with a lot of responsibility though. A even larger team will be necessary when that day comes. Another strategy that has been really effective is shooting content on the house for influencers celebrities. and people with a great following. Everyone loves the camera especially a public figure so offer your services free of charge and before you know it people will love what you’ve done for them so much they will want to start hiring you. Doing good business is the most important thing though. Your clients will brag for you and thats the best marketing you can have is organic traffic.
