Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alexa Michele. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alexa, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Alright – so having the idea is one thing, but going from idea to execution is where countless people drop the ball. Can you talk to us about your journey from idea to execution?
I have been singing my entire life, but it wasn’t until 2015 when I was attending the University of Georgia that I could write my first real song. This was a new way to express myself in music! I quickly became passionate about creating my own melodies and lyrics. From there I launched my own brand in the artist name “Alexa Michele”. After years of crafting my voice and songwriting, I was reached out to by Jason Davis and his team, based out of Nashville, Tennesee, and I agreed to hire them on as my artist development/management team. This decision led me to Nashville, where I wrote 6 songs with professional Christian songwriters and met many others in the industry as well. Since then I have been working on my voice and platform as I gear up to release my first Christian single and future EP.
Since pursuing music, it has been a journey of courage, perseverance and sacrifice. What grounds me is using the Bible to fuel my songwriting. Sharing the good news gives me purpose to carry on when the journey feels really difficult.
Alexa, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Alexa Michele and I am a Christian contemporary singer and songwriter. God called me to this music ministry as a way to glorify Him and help lead others in worship. I write original Christian contemporary music that shares the truth rooted in Scripture, and I am proud that God trusts to use me as a vessel to bring people closer to Jesus Christ. What I want my followers to know about me is that I originally pursued music by wanting to be a famous pop star, but God saved me from my own selfish ambitions of wanting glory for myself.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn that my traction is not going to come from how many views I get, but focusing on creating content that is both impactful and brings the Word to life.
I had popularity growing up in school, and had to unlearn that my impact would not be because of what people have told me, done for me, or even how many people have seen me, but the talents that God has given me and who God told me I am based on His Word.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Living in Nashville is what many consider to be the epicenter of Christian music. After I moved there, I overtook a transformation of converting my genre from a pop star to a Christian artist. I began working with artist development team “117”, and they began helping develop my talents by connecting me with other songwriting talent, producers, and preparing my voice for harnessing the power of the gospel.
God used my preparation and sent me to Seneca, South Carolina where I would be connected to Crosspoint Church in Clemson and unearthing a plethora of opportunity. I was introduced to the Music Director and began learning the strategy for songwriting from seminaries, and will have the possibility to join the Church as a member within the worship team.
Reconnecting with my immediate family in Seneca has been one of the greatest blessings. Preparing for marriage and a family has repositioned my goals to raise children devoted to the Lord and strengthen familial bonds.
