Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alexa Devaney. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Alexa, thanks for joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success professionally, in my opinion, greatly comes from your relationship with yourself. Finding success takes an amazing amount of grit – you have to continue to show up every day and stay persistent with your goal. However, showing up does not accomplish much if you do not do so in the right mindset. In order to generate success, you need the grit of perseverance, but you also need the tact and grace to make the most of the opportunities you create. When you show up with intention, a clear vision of the goal and the expertise to execute, I believe success is well within reach.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I first got into real estate at 22 years old while I was looking for how to get my career started. Nearly 7 years later, I am a seasoned agent representing both buyers and sellers and serving all of San Diego County. Real estate has become a passion very close to my heart because as I delve into this business, I realize how intimate the role is that I play in peoples lives. Whether it is helping a first time buyer into their first home or helping a family make a transition while maximizing their equity – this profession continuously provides me with opportunities to be an extension of each clients life through, in most cases, the biggest asset exchanges in their lifetime. I believe what separates myself from other professionals in my industry is my ability to remove myself from the idea of just “reaching the finish line”. I truly take the time to listen to each of my clients personal goals within this big transition and find a way to customize their experience while becoming great friends along the way. I am most proud of the relationships I have created through my successes. I consider each client an addition to the community and do my best to humanize what we do as their fiduciary and their friend. The bonds, memories and partnerships we build together are what give me life in this challenging industry.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
On the very first transaction I facilitated in my career, I faced the most obstacles to date with a pair of buyers who chose to work with me. I was humbled from the start as they were in litigation with their previous agent for non-disclosure. They reached out to me in pursuit of executing a 1031 exchange for their recently purchased home into a property without the foundation issues that had not been relayed to them in the previous purchase. When we found the replacement home, it was a short sale. Short sales operate a little different than a traditional purchases and adding the layer of 1031 exchange left a lot on the table for me to learn as a ‘green’ realtor. I was able to successfully navigate an incredibly difficult transaction with a highly uncooperative agent representing the seller while protecting my clients. We faced obstacles throughout the entire transaction and even faced a profound issue at closing when the sellers decide to squat and refused to vacate the home. Through calm, patient and direct communication, I was able to finally get the keys for my clients to their now empty home and close a very stressful chapter in their lives for them. To this day, when I face challenges in my career, I remind myself of this transaction – if I can jump through that many hoops – everything else starts to seem small!

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My reputation in this industry (I believe) has been built on integrity in my approach. Real estate is a business where you not only need to maintain personal relationships for repeat clients and referrals from their friends/family, but also have to focus on how you treat other professional who work as partners with you to get deals done. I believe my willingness to cooperate, be patient and step into conversations with kindness has proven to lead to successful results time and time again.
