We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alexa DAmico. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alexa below.
Alexa, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
The Days Sustainable Apparel originated from Alexa’s primary career path – apparel design. Alexa studied apparel design and manufacturing production management at the Fashion Institute of Technology and continued on to work corporately in fashion for large scale womenswear brands such as Club Monaco, Jones New York, DVF, Betsey Johnson among others. Though she loves designing full time in a corporate setting, Alexa yearned for something more, something that was truly her own and aligned with her passions, morals and values.
The Days brand mission highlights just this along with the beauty of ethical clothing manufacturing here in the USA. Alexa takes pride in hand designing and partnering with local, East-Coast based factories while personally sourcing earth conscious materials for all. The Days aims to create fashion forward designs utilizing upcycled and post-consumer materials and plant based fibers such as hemp, wood pulp and bamboo. Alexa manages all of the backwork needed to create her apparel – from the fabric sourcing to patternmaking, to fit samples and photoshoots – a lot of moving parts are needed to bring her designs into fruition. In October of 2022 Alexa and her husband were able to open the 1st private label sustainable storefront for The Days in the beautiful city of Cape May, New Jersey. She is honored to have a voice and platform to teach consumers in person about the brand and its core values in an area that is so cherished by many. You can shop The Days online as well at thedaysswimwear.com and on social media IG – @thedayscapemay

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I am still to this day working a full time design job at a corporate company 9-5 Monday through Friday. It is a lot of work to do this and run my brand but I am willing to do so in order to spread my message on slow, sustainable fashion!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I have built a great foundation online organically – I credit a lot of our online base to the in-person events and popup markets that my husband and I attended on countless weekends. We would pass out business cards and network the old fashioned way to really drive home our mission to the lovely people that continue to support us to this day!
