We recently connected with Alexa Collins and have shared our conversation below.
Alexa, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
Social media has exploded over the past 10 years. I started my journey about 7 years ago when I was in college, broke, and uninterested in my studies. I ended up taking the risk and leaving my college journey to pursue social media full time. Over the years, I’ve seen so many apps and platforms either fail or succeed. Instagram has been my absolute breadwinner, BUT I’ve seen TikTok and Youtube explode and create so many opportunities for new creators. I see fast content being more and more popular in the influencer space, and I do think it’s going to continue to rise as it seems to be more relatable and easy for viewers to watch. If you’re an aspiring influencer, I do believe that this is the best route to take in terms of creating content.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started doing social media about 7 years ago when I noticed that a lot of brands were using the platform to run their entire business. I dropped out of college and took a new journey. I started off by doing some modeling shots, posting every day, and growing an audience. Once I started building a fan base and audience, the brand deals started rolling in. I learned how to engage with my audience on a different level and learned that I was able to influence men and women to trust me when it came to good products and clothing. It’s been quite the journey and I’ve learned to scale and monetize my business by working with various brands, creating partnerships, working with hotels, venues, etc, and learning how to give back. My journey has been immensely fufiing and I have met so many amazing people along the way.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience on social media by making sure that I posted at LEAST once per day. Consistency is everything, and the way the algorithms work push you to be seen. In order for you to be seen more, you need to post daily in order to grow. This will allow your audience to get daily content from you. I highly recommend using some form of scheduling app or program to schedule out your posts for the month so you can not only stay organized, but you can also save plenty of time and headache by being ahead. If you want something, you have to work hard at it. And all of these years, that’s how I grew organically.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe that relatability is everything. Speaking to your audience daily, telling them your problems and struggles. Being human. It’s so important to let people know that you may be dealing with something similar to them. People feel closer to you as a person when you open up and tell them what’s really going on. Sometimes social media can seem a lot like glitz and glamour, but behind closed doors everyone is going through something.
