We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alexa Ashley a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alexa, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Directed a music video on a sailboat off the coast of Portugal during an artist residency. Did 3 visual art performances in 3 days for Mexico City’s 2024 Art Week.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve been a weird creative since I can remember. Always making art, making up songs, making clothes. Always in love with nature, animals, people. In high school I enjoyed my classes in advanced art, film photography, and graphic design. I’ve also always enjoyed helping people live their best lives. In college I was deciding to major in Psychology or Graphic Design. In my introduction to graphic design courses, the professors were using what they knew about the human brain to teach and make their lectures engaging. I decided that if I knew how to help people but didn’t know how to present it in a way they could easily retain or desire to interact with, it would be useless. So I chose graphic design. I really enjoyed branding in college and the day of the year where the design students would do an intense branding session with the marketing students to help pitch their businesses to potential investors. Branding is still a huge part of my services 11 years later. I started at an agency and then started learning about environmental impact and really desiring to do my part to take care of the earth. I needed more autonomy over which clients I would help so that I could focus on conscious companies. I started working freelance for eco and social impact companies, then I was the in-house creative director and marketing manager for a net zero energy home builder. Now I’m back working independently and in the last couple years have gone back to my childhood roots in art-making.
I offer creative direction for branding, video, photo, web, print, product, ennvironment.
As an artist I create paintings, sculptures, spaces, and performances.
I help my customers connect with their dream clients. What sets me apart from others in my field is my multi-disciplinary birds-eye view, with a focus on creating consciously for people and the planet.
And I’m fun to work with :)

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Listening to the Sean Wes podcast, I learned a lot of what the executives at companies learned in the MBAs and I could keep up with their thinking and terminology. It’s also helped me a lot in my freelance business. I’ve also really enjoyed The Science of Success podcast.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission in my creative direction and art is to break down barriers. In communication, in connection, in understanding. So that we may have a more whole humanity and a more thriving planet.
