We recently connected with Alex Zarac and have shared our conversation below.
Alex , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, let’s start with a hypothetical – what would you change about the educational system?
The one thing I would change about the educational system is to teach more kids about starting a business and understanding that small business is the backbone of America. I was never taught this in school and I watched my father work hard and own his own small business. I learned that from my father when in reality a lot of other kids couldn’t share my experience and reality of understanding how to work for yourself. To be honest I never really enjoyed school but that’s because I always loved technology and my schools never taught me that. I was a kid surrounded by technology without an understanding on how that technology impacts our economy. Educating kids about business, finances, technology, and creative arts is something I wish was taught when I was a kid. The problem today is the educational system has a disconnect with kids and keeping them engaged in learning. Filling in that gap with understanding and lessons on social media and technology would likely fill that gap.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For the people who don’t know who I am, I was just a normal tech savvy kid. I got into virtual reality from a close friend of mine Alexander Roderer. He was a big inspiration to me and allowed me to drop into a early developmental testing site for virtual reality. This was in early 2015 and there was no talks about virtual reality at the time. I was one of the first pioneers to test a developmental kit and it blew me away. It was the most intense and powerful experience I had ever tried. After that I took a business class at Collin where I took my experience from VR and made it a business plan. My classmates and professor were stunned and urged me to go out and open my VR arcade. That was 5 years ago and imaginations VR is still going strong today. It wouldn’t have been successful if it weren’t for my now wife Gabrielle Zarac who took the time to cater and direct our operations and formulate a powerful customer service perspective. Without Gabby imaginations VR wouldn’t be half of what it is today, I was the mind and she was passion. Together we made an excellent team and a very strong couple.
The type of business we have is a virtual reality arcade and we provide many kids and clients with high quality virtual reality. It allows our customers to escape reality momentarily to find other worlds and places within themselves. It really is a great thing to see everyone enjoying themselves at our facility.
The thing I’m most proud of is being able to allow kids and adults to do VR without having to worry about having the money to buy a kit for themselves. I’m blessed everyday that I get to be around technology because when I was a kid that’s all I dreamt about growing up. I absolutely love my job and wouldn’t change anything in the world for it. I want our followers and customers to know we truly care about every person that spends money at our facility. We always want your money to go a long way when it comes to entertainment.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I started the business due to my amazing and thoughtful mother. Growing up my mom told me I could do anything I wanted to and I could be anyone I wanted to. While that may sound cliche, I believed it to be the truth. So growing up I truly believed I could do anything I wanted to. I wanted to do something with video games but I could never seem to figure out how. I tried YouTube and never got the response like others could get. I tried learning coding but it was way too hard for me to understand. The main thing is I never gave up because I believed in myself and growing up I always thought back to my mom telling me that I can be and do anything I want in life. My parents were by no means strict parents, I was allowed to freely go and live life without having strict parental rules. They were very creative parents growing up, supporting me being a drummer and my father telling me I should be a musician. I was playing in bars musically at the age of 14 years old with a full band. They in my opinion had a very artistic type of parental rules. Be yourself but don’t get into trouble was the basic motto, stay away from bad crowds of people etc. They were the most supportive people I knew growing up and I had no fear in going after my dreams because of how I was raised.
In college my mom told me to join an entrepreneurial class because she thought it would be fun to do. If it weren’t for my mom there would be no imaginations VR or any business. I would’ve never found my passion in business and I would’ve probably never even met my wife Gabby. My mom gave me $25,000 for my business and told me to go chase my dreams. $25,000 is a lot of money for someone to give you but my mom believed in me at the end of the day and that I am most grateful for. When the world doubted me my mom was the only person who could see my future. With that $25,000 we grew our company to being the best entertainment place for virtual reality. A smart investment indeed, probably her best decision since having kids.

How did you build your audience on social media?
We put a very personal touch on our customers and our social media because we operate like a mom and pop business. We are by no means like any corporate place and we treat not only our customers but also our employees as family. We know customer service goes a long way because we also shop locally with small businesses. We love meeting other business owners because sharing stories is how we get through the hard times of Covid and the pandemic. We are the backbone to the American economy.
