We recently connected with Alex Wolfe and have shared our conversation below.
Alex , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How do you feel about asking friends and family to support your business? What’s appropriate, what’s not? Where do you draw the line?
We are a small and locally owned family business that look to provide value back to the community by way of selling scrubs. To most what you wear isn’t important. but for us it’s not that simple.
When you put on your clothes they should give you confidence and they should feel comfortable on top of that. The scrubs we sell give that back to you and more. They are stylish and comfortable at the same time. The best way that you can suppport a small business is telling more people about them . Word of mouth is the best referral that you can give us and that’s all the we ask. A major part of a small business success story lies in the support that we get from friends and family even strangers.
Alex , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Our story is pretty special. We started out 6 years ago in 2015 as just an embroidery company that wanted to do business with local schools, dealerships Or anyone who wanted to brand their business using a logo that went on a polo or any promotional items. They were are targeted audience.
Then a shift occured and were asked from a former employee ( Marcy Jackson) have you ever considered selling scrubs? Because it’s a field that always going to be around and it’s something that people will always need in the medical field. And then boom! God opens the door and we were able to rent out our very first store front in the Pearland Town center in 2019. And our name went from JMS apparel and promoitions to Scrubsbyjms which was a just an extension of who we are. we still do embroidery Scrubs was just an addition to what we do well.
So how do we plan on setting ourself from the many Scrub stores in Houston. Its simple, whenever you shop it should be an amazing experience from start to finish soon as you open the door, Customer service should be a huge part of that feeling. And we do our best to make sure every single person that walks our door is treated like family and making them feel like their business is very important to us because it is. Nobody wants to go into a place where It’s not warm and welcoming. So here at Scrubsbyjms We do our best to make sure that you are a guest and we are here to serve you.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Most people think it’s extremely easy to start a business and it is. But what people don’t often do is take and account of what comes along with starting a business, You have to sit down and write out your vision, make sure you have the finances to sustain you during the times were you are not making any money because while your not making money the bills don’t care about that they still need to be paid.
there has been many of days were we didn’t have the money and didn’t know where it was going to come from. And every single bill was due and we were also low on stock. I forgot to mention in the beginning is that we are a faith based company and the JMS stands for Jesus my Savior. So during the lean times we simply relied on faith that God would provide if we just stayed faithful to process and they he would keep our door open and served the people that walk though our doors. And he has
We’d love to say that everyday is just peaches and cream and were making so much money that we don’t know what to do with it….. Well that’s not the case, This isn’t for the mentally weak.
Every day its important to fortify your mind and weed out the negative thoughts and even people that tell you that it can’t be done. Because it can be done and you’re going to be the one to show them
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Failure isn’t final. You should use it as feed back on what you’re doing wrong and what needs to be done better in the future. Most people experience failure and just give-up.
The only problem with that is that you’ll never get better. Let your failure create focus because when you’re focused there is nothing that can stop you from achieving your goals
