Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alex Ward. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Alex thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How do you feel about asking friends and family to support your business? What’s appropriate, what’s not? Where do you draw the line?
For my husband and me, our brokerage is built on family—quite literally. We co-own the business, and my mother works with us. Family has always been the foundation of what we do, and that has shaped how we approach the idea of asking for support from those closest to us.
I know some people prefer to keep family and business separate, and I completely respect that. But in real estate, there’s so much opportunity to involve and uplift the people you care about. We’ve partnered with family on home renovation projects to resell, offered relatives the first chance to buy a great deal, and gone out of our way to support them without expecting anything in return. Why? Because we wouldn’t be where we are without their encouragement, and it’s our way of giving back.
For us, it’s less about asking for support and more about creating relationships where everyone feels like they’re a part of something bigger. Whether you’re family by blood or by working with us, if you trust us with your business, you become part of our extended family. And that’s the heart of what we do—helping people, lifting each other up, and building something meaningful together.

Alex, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Here’s a more concise version:
I was born and raised in North Georgia and started my real estate career at 19 while buying my first home. Over the next decade, I gained experience managing offices and navigating business transitions, which led to the founding of Ward Properties. I realized early on that I didn’t want to just be a transactional agent—I wanted to create meaningful experiences and add value to my clients’ lives.
Ward Properties specializes in local residential real estate, helping clients through life-changing transitions like buying a first home, relocating, or selling under difficult circumstances. What sets us apart is our deep community roots and innovative marketing strategies that make every listing stand out. As active members of the community, we build trust by being present at local events, schools, and everyday places like the grocery store.
I’m proudest of the leadership culture we’ve built, centered on values like humility, hunger, and service. Our goal is simple: to solve, serve, and give while guiding clients through one of the biggest financial decisions of their lives. At Ward Properties, real estate isn’t just about transactions—it’s about helping people find where their lives can thrive.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing our clientele has been building genuine relationships and prioritizing value over transactions. We focus on being deeply involved in our community—attending school events, supporting local organizations, and fostering connections in everyday settings like the grocery store. This visibility and authenticity make it easy for people to trust us when they need real estate guidance.
We also leverage a strong marketing approach, showcasing properties with professional visuals, creative campaigns, and a focus on connecting with the right audience. But ultimately, our best growth comes from word-of-mouth referrals. When we deliver exceptional service and create a positive experience, our clients naturally share their stories with others, and that has been the cornerstone of our success.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
My co-founder and business partner is my husband, Brandon, and our story goes way back to high school. One day, out of nowhere, he looked me in the eye and said, “I’m going to marry you one day.” Romantic, right? Not exactly—I didn’t talk to him for two years after that! But, as it turns out, he was right, and we got married shortly after graduating high school. I know I haven’t looked back since, and if he has, I fully hope he lies to me about it!
Brandon has been my rock and biggest cheerleader from the start. His support gave me the confidence to dive headfirst into real estate at such a young age. Eventually, he joined the industry too, and now we work together every day. He’s a huge part of what makes our business special, from connecting with clients to managing our home renovation projects. We’ve built something amazing together—both in business and in life—and I’m pretty lucky to have him by my side (even if he can’t resist saying, “I told you so”).
