We recently connected with Alex Triantis and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Alex thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
How I ended up getting started as a photographer was by taking a risk. One day my good friend called me asking if I wanted to quit my job and pursue photography as a career. At the time I was working for an exotic car dealership as a lot porter and had never used a camera before. I trusted my good friend to take care of me in my endeavors with him and it has rewarded me with 5+ years of owning my own business as a photographer/videographer. I have never looked back since.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Alex and I am an Automotive Photographer by trade. I specialize in capturing exotic vehicles that are for sale and for social media. I also have a passion for film photography which has really honed in my photography skills. Film photography forces me to slow down my creative process and focus on the composition and the photo I am wanting to capture. I have been doing automotive photography for over 5 years now. Cars have always been a passion. Having worked in the exotic dealership industry already it gives my clients a sense of trust with their vehicles. It’s always exciting to see what comes in to be photo’d because you never know what will arrive. One day you might be photoing a VW Jetta and the next you could be shooting a multi million dollar vehicle. Over the years I have had the pleasure of being able to work with some of the world’s greatest vehicles and it truly brings me joy to work in this environment.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I first started in photography I relied a lot on my friend, who helped me start my career, to find work whenever something didn’t work out. That caused me to go back to a 9-5 job for about 6 months but I knew that I needed to get back to what I loved. After I quit that job, I told myself that no matter what I have to give it 110% because I never want to go back to that type of work environment. Even though that job was a setback it provided me the mindset I needed to create a successful business. My friend did provide me with one contract to help me get out of my situation but since then that has been the only thing I have needed from him. Now I cover multiple contracts from classic vehicles, to performance and even exotics. Never give up on something you love.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is when the client gives you complete creative control and when they get to see what your top potential is capable of. Every time a client gets the photos or video back and they say how much they love them is what keeps me motivated to continue creating. Their joy fuels my fire to create.
