Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alex Simon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Alex thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about how you got your first non-friend, non-family client. Paint the picture for us so we can feel the same excitement you felt on that day.
When I first started real estate full time. I started helping out at a local bar and over time people found out that I was a real estate agent. So one day a group of people came and one of them said I heard you were a real estate agent and I would like to see if you can assist us on our search. When I got them under contract it was literally my first contract that I had written on my own. I’m forever thankful when that offer that I wrote got selected out of 7 offers. It will be one of the moments that I will remember because at that moment it was what I needed to know that I was on the right path with this new journey.
Alex, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As a real estate agent I am an out the box thinker. The goal is to make sure that during the initial conversations we establish a relationship of where I provide an educational approach towards the home buying process rather than the sales approach of the home buying process. The reason being is that when a person is informed about the in’s and out’s of the process, they have an easier time making a decision. It’s an approach that my clients have told me that they appreciate and they go on to be able to refer friends to me because they know that they truly were heard during the process and they left better informed.
In working with sellers the goal is to always make sure that they see the value of my approach towards making sure that they get the right exposure. That is making sure that I present them with different marketing options and give them options. Also making sure that their needs are met after they close on the sell of their home.
I am also a Marine veteran that is certified as a military relocation professional (MPR). This allows me to better serve active duty service members and veterans in the buying and selling process with ease.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I would say that starting a real estate business and removing after working over 10 years in the corporate world came with some adjustments. I went full-time into real estate in 2019 and by the first year mark the pandemic had me really questioning my decision because there were so many unknowns. I stayed the course of learning the industry and now I’m on a path that I didn’t think would happen because of outside factors. The biggest thing that kept me going was knowing why I started and it was to be able to have more time to be around my family. I knew that going back to the corporate world would not give me that satisfaction because I would probably be doing something that I wouldn’t like for the long term. In the past 2 years I’ve been able to keep on going in the industry and even passed my exam for my brokers license. It was a commitment to myself that if I didn’t quit real estate in the first 3 years that I would go to the next level.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I believe that being authentic to your true self is one of the best ways to grow your clientele. People like to do business with people that they like and if you are not being authentic they can usually figure it out quick. I believe in finding a common ground that you can connect on and go from there. Also with social media having a level of vulnerability that people can connect with without exposing too much of what’s going on in your life. It’s not always sunshine and rainbows and people need to know that you are approachable.
