We recently connected with Alex Sher and have shared our conversation below.
Alex, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
Underwater reflections are not something you can see in your day-to-day life. I ran into them by accident. Over a decade of taking underwater photographs I collected an archive of unfinished shots. It has about hundred thousands photographs I never thought I would have a time to review – until the COVID.
It was during one such review that I stumbled upon a resemblance of Gustav Klimt’s masterpieces, woven on the water surface’s canvas – courtesy of Her Majesty Nature. The other brightly and whimsically distorted reflection reminded me of Salvador Dali’s paintings. I started cropping reflections from the other photographs and that’s how the series “Underwater Reflections” was born.
The photographs in this series look more like abstract paintings than it is to photography. It is hard to believe that these images are real objects captured by an underwater camera. And yet, they are. These are photographs of reflections on the water’s surface, taken from beneath the water.

Alex, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am an underwater fine art photographer. My photographs have been published in 52 magazines articles. My works have adorned the walls of major museums in Europe and America since 2016 including the renowned institutions in London, New York, Los Angeles, Miami, and even made their way to the prominent Louvre in Paris.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I don’t rely on social media.
I had a big profile at Facebook with 5K friends and 2K followers plus a professional page with 30K followers. Everybody enjoyed my art until Facebook deleted all of them with no explanation neither a chance to contact support.
My Instagram account @alexsher.art has a decent following after a few popular videos. One of the videos had 9.7M views however; Instagram started complaining about my content and I abandoned the platform. The profile is still there though.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think one of the key event of my marketing development was the introduction to Katerina Touchon. She is professional art marketing specialist. She helped me turn my marketing efforts into marketing strategy.
