We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alex Segall. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alex below.
Alright, Alex thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
What I value most in this work is the human experience. I prioritize long, meaningful client discussions. My goal is to not only understand what my clients want captured during their big day, but what is their chemistry as a couple? How do they want that to come through? How do they want to honor and celebrate with their guests? How can I help make things more “fun” and less uncomfortable? I take that information and work to create a beautiful story. Capturing moments that will be looked back on with a huge smile. I also feel that my previous background in planning and floral design gives me unique insight into the planning process. My promise is to ensure transparency with your other vendors and a fabulous photo experience to match!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Alex. I am a wedding and elopement photographer based out of Denver, servicing all of Colorado and beyond. My approach steers away from traditional documentary-style images and focuses on a more hands-on, in-the-action approach. I love witnessing unfiltered chemistry in everyone that I work with. All of those special moments between couples —including the unprompted booty grabs :) My priority as a photographer is to expand my couple’s story as loudly and as epically as possible. Something my clients often hear me say on repeat is, “I have your back,” because I genuinely do—from helping with planning, creating timelines, to even picking out swatches that match the overall theme of your wedding. There is nothing off-limits when you book an experience with me.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
My career began with four years in advertising and three in marketing. Back in college at DePaul University in Chicago, IL, I was asked to photograph various events around campus—everything from dance marathons to sorority and fraternity events and other student activities. It was an honor to capture these moments for my fellow students. I always had a vision of becoming a full-time photographer, but back then, I was focused on climbing the corporate ladder and didn’t see a clear path forward. After working several contract positions that didn’t pan out how I had hoped, I found myself searching for a new role in 2022. That was my turning point. I decided enough was enough and took a leap of faith into what I believed could be my best opportunity yet—pursuing photography full-time. No regrets.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Overall, my social media presence hasn’t been as strong as I’d like. However, my engagement and the way I interact with clients has remained consistent since I started my business. This approach may go against the grain, but I don’t believe in posting daily or keeping up a constant social media presence. Instead, I focus on providing a fantastic customer experience—being completely present, communicating effectively, and showing up for clients when they need me most. Clients who feel supported and cared for are more likely to recommend me or book me for another life milestone, rather than viewing our work together as a one-time job.On my website and social channels, I focus on creating a stress-free experience. My clients aren’t transactions; they’re people I get to celebrate with and support every step of the way, and I’m grateful to be able to honor that.
