We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alex Romney a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Alex thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Oh man, many projects, but I would definitely have to say the Lovely Vegan Fashion (& Goods) Series. These are where I share vegan fashion, style, accessories, & trends mixed with uplifting messages & accompanied by vegan foods, makeup, snacks, treats, & so on.
These productions take a lot of time, planning, hard work, & a focused connection to what I feel called to share & create. They are an absolute joy to do & have been such a positive experience with a positive outcome.
They are extremely meaningful to me for several reasons.
First, I’m very passionate about being vegan & seeing compassion as one of my guiding compasses & values in life.
The content shared from the Lovely Vegan Fashion Series highlights the vegan lifestyle in an effort to invite, excite, & appeal the viewer.
Those who are not vegan or unfamiliar with the lifestyle see that it’s actually quite simple to choose differently next time they shop, make a purchase, or eat something. These same people are always amazed at how the options are endless, fauxbulous, delicious, & SIMPLE.
Second, I’m able to pair the process with messages focused solely on the inside, the heart & soul of a human being.
Given that the stuff I share is very temporal, materialistic, & not what ultimately brings someone peace, I love to include healing truths & spiritual upliftment that is lasting; where inner wholeness is found which is ultimately all that matters in the big picture of life.
I find true fulfillment in a way that feels part of my purpose in life. I’m extremely grateful & excited to continue learning how to show up by serving others in the best ways that I can.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Alex Romney; I’m 35 years old, & I’ve worked as a fashion model, entrepreneur, amateur chef, stylist, & creator.
I worked many years in fashion before starting a lifestyle brand called SoulRise Tribe. We sold organic, eco-friendly, vegan, USA-made clothing & other products such as reusable totes, candles, accessories, & so on. We also donated 20% of all profits to various charities.
We were partnered with Whole Foods Market & awarded ‘Supplier of the Year’ for the RM region. This was an absolutely amazing journey for me, as I had never gone to business school & had no idea what I was doing, but I JUST STARTED.
Since then, I have created a platform called Lovely Vegan. Here is where I share everything within my heart & passions, from vegan fashion to foods, creativity, spirituality, inspiration, positive jam sessions, & anything else I feel is important to highlight.
It started more as a side hobby to share & be authentic but has since turned into a beautiful little community where I have thoroughly enjoyed connecting with others in a space of love.
I absolutely love it! I’ve enjoyed meeting so many wonderful people & continue to grow & learn a lot about myself. I’ve overcome fears & doubts while stretching beyond the uncomfortable. It’s been amazing.
At Lovely Vegan, you will find a safe space to come & experience sunshine from the inside out. I love sharing anything that can help someone FEEL GOOD.
We are all looking for content that helps us do this. Whether you love fashion, veganism, positivity, inspiration, good music, randomness, animals, spirituality, personal growth, personal updates, & everything in between, I trust you’ll enjoy what’s shared.
Vegans, non-vegans — everyone is welcome, & I’m so glad you’re here.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The goal or mission is purely to continue following what I feel calls to my heart, which is part of what I’m meant to be doing. At the heart of it all is to share light, love, & healing with others, animals, & in all ways that I can. This will always be at the heart of all “goals”.
Creating a positive impact while also being able to enjoy the pursuit of working as a vegan fashion model, styling for a photoshoot, eating delicious food, jamming out to positive music, & all the other fun things in the process is a total WIN.
My goal in relation to the “work” part of is to connect with more amazing designers, brands, & companies that share like-minded values when it comes to keeping things fauxbulous & delicious without cruelty & exploitation to animals.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I believe the entire journey requires resilience.
Being a creator & being at peace with what you’re doing, whether others are applauding you or there’s complete silence, is vital. Losing one’s focus to primarily external validation will be a miserable journey.
Sharpening your inner voice to be as in tune with your heart as possible is very, very important. This is what will guide you when you feel the outside world isn’t mirroring your inner hopes, dreams, or “expectations”.
One of many helpful mindsets is to trust yourself. When you create or put your heart into something, it’s key to ask yourself how you feel about it & remember how you felt before & after sharing or posting online.
No matter what the results are, this is truly what matters. Loving what you created will bring you peace of mind & heart. It’s within the integrity of being an authentic artist or creator.
What you create is from your heart; it should always be personal for you! And those who are meant to connect with you & find you will. Those are the people you want to attract within your community because they are invested in who you authentically are.
Another important thing to always fall back on when overwhelmed, tired, or exhausted is your WHY.
Why do you create? Why are you doing what you are doing? What is the “WHY” at the core of it all? Make sure this “why” stands on a solid foundation & not a faulty, external temporary “fix”.
Finally, remember that the only constant is change, & the highs may go low & the lows will go high again. Enjoy the journey.
Enjoy the peaks & valleys. Try to stay steady through it all, knowing your heart will never fail you.
Enjoy creating and BE-ing!
