We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alex Platt a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alex, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Everyone has a choice in what they do and a different definition of success. To be successful you have to go above and beyond for your clients. You have to work smarter and harder. You have to have a special commitment, drive and passion to do things at a level higher than anyone else is doing, and you can’t get to the top alone. You need a supporting team and staff around you of like-minded people to be successful with you.
Alex, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Alex is a South Florida Native and a Top Producing Real Estate Broker with a refreshing focus on residential real estate in Boca Raton & Delray Beach. Alex is highly responsive and detail orientated with a reputation for treating his clients like family. Passionate about his work and dedicated to his clients, Alex has a proven track record of providing extraordinary service and outstanding results.
Before getting into real estate, Alex learned customer service by managing his family’s restaurant, Mellow Mushroom. In 2012 he became a REALTOR and worked for a boutique brokerage for two years before leaving the restaurant industry to become a real full-time real estate Broker and opening his own Real Estate Brokerage, Platt Properties, which is when Margot and Alex officially met.
When they met, Margot had been working for a footwear design and manufacturing company for seven years. She was skilled in operations, marketing, business strategy, and unifying a team. With Alex’s encouragement, Margot shifted gears to work for the customer-obsessed pet company Chewy.com where she quickly worked her way to the position of Program Manager, reporting directly to the C Suite and overseeing the launch of multiple high-level projects for Chewy.com.
As the couple shared deep conversations about their life and career goals, they agreed that rather than Margot being Alex’s “consultant” after her day job, she should finally leave corporate America to join him. At the time they didn’t realize their past experience in hospitality, sales, customer service, and operations would lead them to where they are today.
Together, the Platts do it all to give both their clients and team members a five-star experience when working together. The dynamic duo has all of their bases covered, Alex is sales-facing focusing on working directly with clients when buying and selling, and with his obsession with market knowledge, excels at navigating difficult negotiations and transactions. Margot’s experience in corporate America made her prime to be the driving force behind the team’s back-end operations, infrastructure for growth, business strategy, lead generation, and ensuring goals are set and met.
The two are obsessed with constantly identifying ways to grow their business which shows based on them doubling their business year over year, consecutively, over the last five years. Although Alex and Margot eat, breathe and sleep real estate, they don’t look at it is as a job, but rather as a lifestyle.
Have you ever had to pivot?
We went from owning and operating our own Real Estate Brokerage to joining Compass, the largest Brokerage in the US. We had to pivot from being a local brokerage, where we taught ourselves everything we knew, to being part of a larger company. We had to almost start from scratch and learn how to take advantage of the technology, resources, and network of other agents to benefit us and take our business to the next level.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Referrals from past clients and social media. We find it extremely important to use social media and direct mail to share our activity with them. We also keep close track of their lives on social media and when ever they have a momentous event in their life, we reach out to them so they know we are thinking about them, in other ways than just selling them homes and seeing them as a transaction to buy or sell a home.
